Default upgrade alternator

what aftermarket alternators are out there? I have gone through Advance Auto parts, O'Reilly auto, and Autozone's website...so far have found a 145amp from a silverado......

I see the 160amp alternators on ebay all the time...has anyone used these?

looking for the biggest alternator I can find that will bolt up to an LS1....

I went with an Alterstart 200 amp...it uses a different case, but still bolts right up. So far, it has been great, but I don't daily drive my car anymore like I used to. I certainly don't have any voltage drop with it, and I drive a small stereo system with it. I mainly wanted it to help offset the electrical draw of my electric water pump and my soon to be upgraded fuel pump(s).

Previous to that, I had a 160 amp alternator from Afterthoughts Auto (they contracted it out to someone else), but it died on me, and I never did get it fixed.

It depends on what you're looking for. There are 200A and 235A alternators that fit LS1s. If you're looking for power at idle, the 200A actually puts out more amperage at idle than the 235A. The 235A has more output at higher engine speeds.

I went with the 200A because I was looking for something that could handle air conditioning, wipers, lights, etc. while sitting in traffic (a common situation in Florida).

powermaster huh......

and I did search.... I went through the sticky at the top that labels...most common topics. the alternator was not in there...so I made a post.

where did you guys order your alternators? I normally use Advance..as they kick butt here in town for having upgrades, but this time they only had the stock 105amp. the autozone(which I hate) here in town has a 130-145amp.....I will check out the mounting with my old one. 200some for a stock alternator..I would rather spend twice that and get near double. best to have over kill than to be stuck needing to upgrade later....

I also purchased mine from ebay a long while ago and it has worked flawlessly (160amp). I did do the big three upgrade when I swapped out the alternator as well to try and help my new one last a little longer and make it more efficient.

Do not use excessive amperage. Alternators are junk and the guy ripped me off.

purchased a 160A from ebay, works good. Although they are rated at a higher RPM than idle.
