Where is the door switch located?
Where is the door switch located? I have a 1994 Camaro. The Door switch (the switch that tells the car the doors are open, and turns on the light) was located by the door hinge (IIRC).
My 2002 Camaro SS Convertible does not have switches in this location. Did GM switch to proximity switches? or did they move them elsewhere?

I believe its all in the latch mechanism, which is bolted to the inside of the end of the door. The handle is separate and connects to the latch mechansim by a rod. (Not sure how the previous generation cars were set up.)
You can take a screwdriver and move the rocker in the end of the door that normally engages the strike bolt. Put the key in the ignition while you do this and you'll notice all of the normal beeps, lights, etc. goinig off like you would when the door closes. (You will have to pull up on the door handle to open the rocker back up so you can shut the door when you are done experimenting.)
