Description:
After building three Japanese cars in a row, I decided to move on to Germany. I bought a running (for a change) BMW 525iT ("Touring") wagon here in FL for $3K. The stock motor is a 2.5L inline 6. This car appealed to me since it had wider aftermarket replica wheels on it.
I towed it home, and pulled the BMW motor and transmission. I picked up another junkyard Gen 3 motor, this time from a wrecked 2005 GMC Sierra. It is the same motor as is in the RX-7. I had initially planned to turbocharge the Supra, but couldn't find enough room under hood. I decided to give it a try with this one. This car has too many mods to recall or list, but here are the highlights:
Z06 cam & LS6 springs
Custom log manifold for turbo, Sanderson block hugger on driver side
Currently a MPT70 turbo that is too big for the application. Will end up with either a 60-1 or hybrid GT37.
ATI twin high flow F-body intercoolers.
Corvette accessories and intake.
Hummer H3 Alpha oil pan (this was one of the worst parts of the project).
Cobra hydroboost master cylinder (ties into power steering for brake boost and eliminates vacuum booster).
B&M super cooler oil cooler with thermostat.
F-body T56 six speed transmission- a good fit, and not too bad a project since European versions of the car had a manual option.
BMW large case (7 series) limited slip diff.
Mustang steel driveshaft.
BMW 540 (thicker) rear brakes and 850 (larger diameter) front brakes.
Extra gauges on dash.
Custom aftermarket front bumper cover to cover intercoolers and oil cooler.
1998 PCM and wiring, custom HP Tuners tune.
With the exception of the log manifold welding, all work was done by me in my garage by myself.
I could not have completed this project w/o the help (ideas and parts sources and a few parts) of several members here.
