Ran 12's tonight, questin about Nitto drag radials
Went to route 66 tonight and ran 1244 at 110mph. 60 foot time was 1.83. Last time I went to the track my car ran a 1274 at 109mph. 60 foot time was 2.01. The only thing I changed was I put on some new Nitto drag radials. I have a 3500 stall speed but I only came out at around 2000rpm. The run before I came out at 3000rpm and the tires spun giving me a 1255. I need to know with the Nitto drag radials should I run them with 30 lbs of air and do a long burnout or take the air out and do a long burnout. My best time was with 18 lbs of air in the tires.

yea from what i hear nittos are good for radials as far as tread wear and being better in the rain, but are the worst hooking radial. as far as tire pressure it needs to be around 18psi or so and do a good burnout would be my guess but you will just have to try and see.

I tried 25lbs down to about 18lbs. The tires still won't hook. But on the bright side my rear end is still working. The Nittos are a good street tire but they suck at the track. Its to bad there brand new and i'll have to use them for the rest of the year. Next year I'll get a better tire. Thanks for the replys

I have yet to try my luck at the track with my Nitto 555r Dr's 305 35r18. At any rate I remember spinning the Goodyears, spinning but less with the Michelins, and now I pretty much dead hook with the Nittos. Thats on the street. No burnout and 30 psi cold. So a few more PSI when warm. At any rate I can't wait to see how well they hook at around 22 psi at the track. I'll spin them a bit before staging and come out the hole and bang the gears. I think I can pull a 11.4-11.6 at 123-125 mph. Need a 1.7xx 60 time though.
Bottom line is I can't believe the Nittos didn't hook for ya. I guess its all who you ask. Some say M/T's suck and we all know they don't. To each their own.

Yea I honestly love my Nittos. Sure, I dont have anything to compare them to as I have never had MTs. However their sure a hell of a lot better than stock tires. Plus, for them to even hook at 30+ psi on the street, with my size stall, and them only being 245's, I feel is pretty impressive.

Your post gives me confidence bro. Can't wait to run mine (305 35r18) at the track.

Aside from what car these nittos are on... I think they work great for what they are. I was able to get consistant low 1.8's out of them with a best of 1.74 (pic below). I would lower then down to 14psi cold or 16psi hot. Do a 5-7 sec burnout (roll out of the burnout), quickly stage and do a quick feather/dump of the clutch. If you look closely you can see that I was able to get them to wrinkle. -Mark

I quess there is still hope for my nitto drag tires. I have to say they do work well on the street. I'm going back to the track on the 18th and try again. I did notice that Mac's 2000 ss Camaro ran 1221 at 110mph. I think thats great. My car is trapping out at 110 and ran a best time of 1240. I think 1221 looks alot better. I'll keep try. Thanks everyone for your help. With you'r help I'll get into the 11's

I had a lot better luck with my mickey thompsons but I was able to snag a brand new set of Nittos for 200 bucks this year so thats what Ive been running...I like them on the street but I havent had a lot of luck with them at the track. A really long burn out and 16 lbs has been my best luck with them so far...if I had it to do over again I would have just waiting and gotten the MT ET Streets again though.

I ran my Nitto's all weekend at the track in Cedar Falls this weekend and really worked them over. The key is to really heat them up and have about 20 lbs. of air in them.I was cutting 1.5 60 fts all day yesterday and today I got my best 1.495 60.Whoever says Nitto's don't work at the track are dead wrong. Also, can't leave the line any higher than 2000 RPMs......Tried around 3000 a couple times and would not hook.Traver

I'd get the M/T Street Radial, that's the best radial out there.
My friend runs 8.30's @ 160's mph on a 275 60 15 M/T Street Radial. Those tires work awesome with autos.
