what size of harmonic balancer for 383?
i'm getting close to completing my 383 build. i know there is a variety of different harmonic balancers for an internally balanced motor out there.
i wanted to know what size i should use. and if anybody had any suggestions on brands?

i think most will univerally agree that the ATI super damper is the best on the market. from what I remember, you'll need the 7" balancer (its all based on stroke). i have a 355" engine, so I use the 6 3/8" balancer.

What rpm range is the engine running at? Has the engine been balanced? What is your budget?
well, you ground my cam for it a while back. and gave me a list of valvetrain parts to go with it. you said it would hit peak power around 6800 rpm but only loose a few horsepower all the way 7200 rpm. and yes its balanced. i'd rather not spend more than $200.

Sorry about that, I wasn't paying attention to your login ID.
I would run a 8" PowerBond balancer, this will fit into your budget and have a good balancer. http://www.competitionproducts.com/p...s.asp?dept=715

thanks guys. i think i'm gonna go with the powerbond. i am on a budget.
and shane, my build is still coming along. i've had to put it on hold for a little bit so i could save up some more money. i put your cam in a couple months ago. then i was sliding in the lifters and one pair of lifters wouldn't slide in right. it was kind of cut wrong. so i'm ordering a single pair from summitt. i'm probablly gonna try to get the motor running on the engine stand first before i put it in the car. i'll try to post some vids of it.
i'm curious to see what the ls1 style lobe design will sound like. haha. yhanks again man.

His cam was ground on a lobe design origionally for a LSx family cam. They have been modified to work on a SBC base circle cam core, they might work, but you never know . In all seriousness they have worked out quite well for me and his car should be pretty roudy on & off of the giggly gas.
