Default '02 Z06 first time to the track 12.3 @ 120MPH

First time out to the track in my 2002 Z06, I have only been to the track a handfull of times in the past several years anyways. I more so enjoy some highway pulls as I dont want to spend the money to make my Z06 hook up safely. AKA I am not very good at launching the car as I never practice. 60's were terrible all day, on the street tires I couldnt get a clean run b/c I was expiriencing so much wheel hop, so I threw on my buddys ET streets and while it did not wheel hop it spun very bad through 1st. Best 60ft was 2.25 on this 12.3 Pass.

The car is slammed on stock bolts
26" MT ET Street (heated up untill I saw smoke then rolled out of burnout)
Unknown Cam
LS6 intake/ported TB/Varraram CAI/stock intake tube
Longtube headers/catless X-pipe
SLP Loudmouth exhaust
Short shifter
Full weight & 1/2 tank of gas (32xx lbs no driver)

I'm pretty sure the car could use a retune as well since the P/O removed a f.a.s.t intake & nitrous before selling me the car, So I wouldnt be surprised if the tune needs to be sorted out.

Nice car! If The car was tuned for nos you could pick up some power by adding timing. My guess would be that he used a timing box to pull timing. Pull a plug and see if it is a cold plug for nos, if it is throw in some tr55's. With that trap you should be very low 11's.

Bad *** lookin' C5Z.

Seems like you need some seat time though. Being slammed like that did not help your traction issues, what psi were the tires at cold? Car is good for low 11's with that trap, just gotta work on your launches! How were you launching the car?

60 foot and trap speed tell a story of mid 11's or better just with traction sorted out , if tune is not optimum agree with these guys low 11's in your future with a good tune - congrats!

I'm pretty sure it has TR6's in it right now but I will check when I get home. I agree tho, I would think he would have used a timing box for the timing but The car runs extremely rich. Every other week when I wash the car I have to scrub the back bumper hard to get all the black soot off it.

LS1rob00 - thanks man, I was launching the car at around 2500-3000 RPM on the slicks. Like I said I never practice launching so I probably needed to slip the clutch more and roll into the throttle easier. Slicks were at 15 psi if I remember right, I ran my street tires at 20-22 psi

If they turn out to be TR6 plugs, more then likely he was running a 100 shot, maybe less, so there's probably no box to pull timing. He either just ran stock, or had a couple of degrees pulled out by his tuner, or maybe a hand held.
Take your car to a shop and have them plug it in and see where the timing is at and why it's running so rich.
Might just be an 02 sensor has gone bad.

Super old post but I am taking my Z06 back out to the track this weekend. I have a lot of seat time in it now (racing no prep & mexico) & have added 16" ET streets as well as an anti wheel hop brace and trans/dif brace.

Hoping for high-mid 11's on motor and high 10"s on a 150 shot.

You should easily be able to do mid 11s.....really 10s on motor with some attention payed to it.

Yes I got the tune sorted out - it didn't need much just some fuel adjustments, I originally thought it had a nitrous tune in it but the timing curve was good to go - just had a lot of + fuel trims carrying over into the PE.

ehhhh, I'd like to think so but with the suspension set so low I really am pretty confident mid-high 11's is going to be the best it will do on motor. The DA will be pretty high - I ran a few weeks ago and it was 3200 DA

Based on what you've mentioned about the suspension and whatnot I think your assumption about running mid 11's is probably accurate. So you have no clue on the cam? Is it pretty choppy or more mild sounding?

So I had the car for sale for a little while and the guy who built the car called me wanting to buy it back and he gave me the cam specs. 234/240 .605/.617 on 111 LSA

I'll be ecstatic with mid 11's - how much do u think I would pick up on a 150 shot spraying out of the hole? You think it would pick up a full second?

That's a pretty good size cam for your setup. All things being exactly equal a full second off a 150 shot is very doable IMO

Yes it is a big cam for stock heads for sure. Its a very basic setup but the car runs very strong. I've been very competitive with it @ no prep events - I can keep up with some of the faster guys that are deep into the 10"s but you know how it is with no prep - everyone leaves pretty easy to make a solid A-B pass. The track I am going to tomorrow (silver dollar raceway in Reynolds GA) is not known for being a heavily prepped track - good for my IRS but I'm nervous about how it is going to get out of the hole. Will be fun regardless

I'll report back with results

SUCCESS!!

Motor: 11.8 @118 with a 1.9 60 ft

Nitrous: 10.997 @131.3 with a 1.9 60 ft. 1/8 mile was 7.26 @ 104.5

Car was spinning bad out of the hole and 1.9 was the best 60 I could manage but boy it was riding on the kit! I've never been faster than 12"s so I joined the 11 and 10 second club last night.

That's awesome congrats! Looks like you got just shy of a full second with the same 60ft, which is about what I thought. Very cool
