what was the best years for the ls1
i have a 99 that is knocking and i am just gonna buy a junk yard engine to install
i heard certain years came with the ls6 intake but wich engine should i look for

The only really meaningful upgrade the 01+ 5.7 LS1's have over the earlier years is the Z06 conn. rod bolts for a little more stability at higher rpms should you decide to cam it. Other than that they have slightly bigger injectors and the LS6 intake.

If going with an LS1, the 2002. The 02's had the coated piston that were introduced in March 01 (late 01 production) and the new rings (introduced in the third week of 02 production). This engine also had the LS6 intake. Better still would be an 04 which had the LS6 block, many had the LS2 timing chain and many of the blocks are drilled for the later LS2 timing chain damper even though the LS1 didn't come with one.

slolt1 well i have a 6.0 out of a truck but was tryn to keep from adding the weight

i have not totally decided against building mine.
i bought the car like this and it is totaly stock no bolt ons what so ever it has good oil preassure and oil looks good but it has a knock and the oil sample came back high metal
it has 111000 miles so what do you think could have done the damage to it.
