HELP!!!!!! ls1 to th400
ok im about to do a lsx swap into a 67 camaro, im ordering all the stuff at the same time pretty much. im goin to mate it to a th400, i ordered the crankshaft spacer. now can i use the converter from my th400?? i have a b&m torque master 2000 i had in a th350. will this work or will i have to get a different converter or flexplate. i really need some input any help is greatly appreciated

If you're using the curved ls1 flexplate then you need to oblong the holes on the ls1 flexplate. Reason is the bolt spacing is different 298mm vs 300mm i believe??? and wont match up with your torque convertor. Its been done before and there are alot of threads on here about it. Search function is your friend.

i talked to TCI and they said all I need is their flexplate (didnt say which one)
I have a th400 from a pontiac that i will be using for an LQ4
The only other modification I would need is if i had a large or small hole torque converter. (which I dont know) either way they said they have a TC that will work for me...

If your trans is good, have the internals swapped in a Chevy case. Won't have adapters to mess with and it may play into a spacing issue with the LS flexplate if the adapter was used.

all this flywheel stuff is so confusing, lol
a stock 350-400 converter has a snout that is to short to reg into a stock
LS flywheel-the 4L80E trans used the same dim of a 350-400 conv., as far as reach, so GM used a spacer (.400) bet the crank and flywheel to extend the crank to the converter, and used a flat flywheel to keep the same dim as far as the starter mesh as the curved flywheel
if not using a spacer between the crank/flywheel, then a (diff., no bolt holes)spacer needs to be used between the flywheel and converter(earlier truck cranks had a longer rear section, no spacer, but we will assume not many out there now, lol)
when i installed my stroker engine, i swapped out my fact. 4L80E spacer and flywheel for a TCI one (SFI rated) it was also flat, i assumed it took the old 4l80e spacer since it was flat, but it didnt, was thicker with a spacer bolted to it, and the ring gear teeth were at the correct dim.-but now my 4L80E converters (same for 350-400) snout didnt reach the crank to reg, but there was a spacer with the flywheel, but the insts. said dont use the spacer if using an LS engine?????? well, the spacer is just what i needed to match up and reg. the crank/snout-i assume they were thinking you would be using the 4l60e with a long snout, i even called TCI with no help orig.
the flywheel was even listed for a 4l80e, go fig-but it all works now-i had a 400 in it before i switched to the 4l80E, so it all uses the same dims.

are the hole positions the same for the Th400 and the TH350? (Converter wise) cause when I tired it on my 98 LS1 Camaro's flywheel they didn't bolt up? there was a difference... (I know I need a spacer I have it, I know I need the longer bolts I got the ARP ones, Im asking about the holes pattern not bell housing, but the holes that go frm torque converter to Flywheel)

I have seen a few early truck engines with a crank snout .400 longer (sticks out from the back of the block) while the normal Gen III cranks are flush with the rear seal. Those engines don't need this adapter or bolts and are easy to spot with the engine away from the transmission.

already bought both of those bro, my problem was just if the th350 torque which is pictured behind that flywheel of my 98 camaro, has the same pattern of the th400 bolt... so is the 298mm 300mm difference the same? thats my question thanks!
(I was thinking of sticking to the th350 torque on the th400 for less rotating mass...)

You may have a T-400 bolt pattern converter on the T-350.
I don't know but maybe the smaller T-350 bolt pattern matches up with the smaller 298 mm spacing used with the 4L60E.

not sure bro... but all I know is someone told me that its a th350 converter, on a th400, is there anywhere u can link me to show me how can I fix my flexplate to make it fit this converter?
