Default Bought my dream car in a '06 CTS-V, but FML (She's home!)

I bought an '06 last week. Been wanting one for awhile. I've been driving an '96 Impala SS for 10yrs prior. I see them as related (Vette drivetrains).

Purchased: 04/09/11 at 7pm
Storm hits: 04/11/11 at 1am

Got to drive it for 3hrs & have owned it for 30hrs at this point. FML! Drove it home, parked it at 1am Sat.

Before pictures (from the dealer ad):

After pictures:

Dealer shot:

Night I drove it home:

Parked next to the Impala:

What's this? You don't say?

WTF? FML!

Appraiser say $6600 in repairs. I say she's full of ****.

Also, it's likely the roof of my house is totaled. $2000 deductible there too. Houses all around me got damage similar to this:

Anyone know any good body repair shops? Whisler gave me the name of the Sewell Grapevine guy I need to talk to, but I'll get some more estimates done.

Ouch... 6k seems pretty conservative, I'd definitely get a few more estimates.

Sorry to hear about that, I heard about hail near us and I had that sucker in the garage immediately.

Damn that sucks... I feel bad for you.

I have no idea what is best - to fix or to total and then look for another, but I hope it works out well for you.

Get an estimate from a 'restoration shop' - not body shop.

Now you had to share your pain and I'm depressed.
Man that is a real visual of "completely bummed-out"

On the up side. Get the shop to add a pearl top coat for a 'one-of-a-kind'.
You may just need a cowl hood, too.

Good Luck and come back and show us the finished product.

PS. ---what happened to the Impala?

I haven't used my garage for it intended purpose in years, & there is a '65 VW Bug in there too (in pieces). I had intended to (and will) clean the garage so the Caddy could fit, but damn, I only had it for 30hrs!

I never even had any warning. I was at my desk when the power went out, then I heard the first "tink tink" of hail hitting, with in a minute it was a roar.

Impala was left in front of my buddy's place when we went to go get the Caddy. I was supposed to bring it home Sunday, but the plans to do that had fallen through & so it sat in front of my friend's until Tuesday. During that time though, someone HIT IT TOO! I have a basketball sized dent in my driver's door! No hail damage, but the door is toast. The Impala wasn't the cleanest in the land, but she was straight. Minor dings/scratches, but not a big *** dent.

Funny story about my buddy driving me to get the Caddy though . . .

He was driving his 9 month old 2011 Silverado crew cab. While waiting on me & my paperwork, he saw an admittedly gorgeous sales lady & started going on test drives. Next thing I know, he's trading in his truck on a 2008 C6 Z51.

Lol man that sucks! I only lol'd because I have been trying to get my car ready to sell and my sister backed into it just a few weeks ago and then a hail storm came through about 2 weeks ago and hit it. NOTHING like yours but still plenty of dents all over the car. I feel your pain!

Sorry man. That really sucks. At least you didnt buy my car only to have $5000 in damage due to the engine failing on top of the hail.

...FML

Is there a thread with insight into this? Was this failure cam/top end related?

No thread yet as I dont know the issue. Its bottom end...possibly a rod or spun bearing.

And I went in because I though I had a loose plug wire on cylinder 8...damn was I wrong.

Not sure if i'm doing 408 or stock replacement. Thread to come.

Sorry man, hate to see that. I got lucky that night, we didn't get any hail in south Dallas. But I clearly remember seeing that car on craigslist.

Build date is 11/2005 though. I stopped in at James Woods Caddy & was talking to a sales person. He pulled up all the paperwork/invoice/warranty repairs done on the car since new with mileage & printed it out for me. That was cool. No diff listed anywhere, but the radio has been removed/repaired at least 3 times. Also, it's a local car. Been in DFW area since sold new.

How do I identify the diff? I saw a list of part numbers, but where would I find it on the diff?

I almost had the same thing happen to me last Friday!! I ALMOST left work early to beat traffic but I couldnt get out. At 5pm, the worst hail storm I've ever seen hit. My car is covered at work. Had I left out when I wanted to, I would have been sitting in traffic getting beat up.
