Got stopped by a picky cop!
he told me my tailights have to be gone. there blacked out...ive had them for 2 years...damn it!
I sanded a small portion and it looks like its whiteish, opaque and scratched. Is that normal?
How do I take that black paint off?
Also..........he stopped me cause of my cut-out......and Ive had it for three years!

See if you can get some cheap stock tails off an another T/A to get rid of the citation, and then put the blacked out ones back in. Just keep the cutout closed, they can't bother you for that if you're not using it. There is no law against a capped off hole in the exhaust.
I hate cops.

Sounds like a bad idea to sand them down.

Double check the laws in your area. Here in Tucson some cops will pull you over for black outs, but the other half won't. The law states that you must have one functioning tail light so people try to get away with saying the 3rd brake light is there's, and sometimes it works.

Sand the tail lights down with 400 grit then smooth with 800 grit, then clear coat them. They should look close to normal again.
Or, just buy extras.. put them on to get rid of ticket.. and change back.
And I agree.. elec cutout. When you're getting pulled over, shut your car off and roll, close cutout, then if he asks voila! quiet car

If it was me i'd leave everything how it is and cross your fingers. I was pulled over two years ago for no front plate. He was nice about it but said if he saw me again w/o it he'd ticket me. Guess he's not seen me yet.
With my true duals I always wait until the cop walks back to his car and shuts the door before I start my car up

it is completely possible to sand them to a better than new finish. starting at 400 grit, then working your way up wetsanding to probably 3000grit. But this would a a TON of work.
