Default Turndown on a Cutout

I know that this isn't something that you can normally see, but something that I'm doing.

I'm doing it becuase my car ran a tad rich and it blew soot all over the underside of the car and covered the Suspension and all of the area around the Cutout pretty much in soot. I'm also re-doing how the Cutout pipe is welded on to the Exhaust because the Muffler Shop that I went to to do it couldn't get the angle for it tight enough while it was on the Car, so now that it's off the Car I'm going to fix it and make it better.

I have a QT 3.5" Electric Cutout bolted on the car with a 3-Bolt Flange, so what I'm doing is taking a 3.5" 3-Bolt Flange & a 3.5" Turndown that I bought on Summit, and basically making a bolt-on Turndown.

This is what I bought..

I'm not using the whole Turndown, I'm cutting it to where it fits good and has a nice angle to it, but I'm trying to get it pointed down pretty much. Then bolting it on with the Electric Cutout inbetween the Flanges.

Any of you do anything like this?

Sounds like a good idea!

Post up some pictures when you're finished. Havn't seen this much, if at all before.

Easily. The Cutout is going to go inbetween the Flanges, and it will clear everything without a problem. All I'm doing is putting a turn down on it. I still can open it and close it in the car without a problem.

The badlanz e-cutouts have something similar to that. But it's easy enough to do it yourself or have a shop do it for the price.

Merv:

I did exactly this. It works perfectly. Welded the turndown (which was cut), and welded it to the 3-bolt flange.

BUT

It was installed onto a Flowtech cutout. It worked perfectly, until I put my DMH cutout on.

The combined thickness of the turndown and the DMH unit was too much for the bolts on the flowtech cutout, so I wasn't able to use it once the electric dump was put on.

I can grab some pictures of the turndown when I get home.

Here you can see the bolts are just barely long enough for the DMH unit itself.
