LS1 targa top project underway
I'm almost done with my targa top conversion on my Z28.
The car is as solid if not more solid than it was before I hacked on it. I installed BMR boxed subframe connectors, welded them solid, and then bent over the rocker pinchweld and laid a solid bead of weld all the way down the side, connecting the rockers to the subframes.
This thing isn't going anywhere.
I smashed the glass from my t tops, then I made the roof panel from carbon fiber, with studs impregnated into it to attatch it to the factory T top sides. The top installs just like two t tops, just one big piece. I used parts of metal from the removed roof center... spliced and welded to the front and back where the roof was cut... the weatherstrip goes all the way across now, like it would have been from the factory.
The car has more of a sportscar feel to it now, I never liked the T tops. No extra noise, shaking or anything and after a weekend of beating on it, the roof halves didnt move .001 inch. (I was paranoid and measured it with a 48" micrometer caliper)
Heres pics before I finished the metalwork:

All I have left to do is the headliner and paint the roof, I'll have Madkilla post more pics when it's all done.

Looks great!!!
I've posted about this before, and the problem I was told is that the A pillars aren't reinforced and EVEN with suspension mods, the chasis will flex and the windshield will probably crack. Take her over some potholes and rough her up to see how it holds.
Keep us posted!

Now I understand all of those movies where the vampire awakens after sleeping two hundred years.
I always get kinda cranky when I read a thread and it takes halfway through to notice that the original poster died of old age three years ago.

Oh thank goodness. I couldn't stand seeing another pink car (I live in New Mexico you should see what these ******** are doing to their cars).
Titanium sounds better even if it reminds us of **** and anus's. Besides I am definately a **** AND a *** man.
