Default typical cost of paint job?

hye just want to get a feel of what a deacent paint job would run me, i have been looking local here getting estimates and to be honest there all over the place on pricing.

here is what i want done, the car is a 99 ss vert, its black, i want to keep it black, so im not getting the door jambs paintd or under the trunk thats fine, im going to replace the front bumper and a few flex dimples need to be pulled out but other then that i want to keep the car black.

so what should i expect?

Hey man, well it depends on the shop you go to, the quality of work that's done and the extent of prep. Will there need to be or would you want it wet or color sanded? The number of dings/dents to be fixed, etc. I've looked at prices also and from what I've seen you should probably expect to pay around $1000-2500 for what you describe. Now if you go to an econo paint shop you can get a job for a few hundred dollars. Good luck. Be sure to post pics when it's done.

I'd say $1000 is Maaco territory. Maybe somewhere around 2500-4000, but hell if I know, it's a guesstimate.

Check some local body shops. Make sure if you go to any shop, ask to see work they have just finished. You wanna be sure they do a good job first before you give them your car.

it all really depends on the prep u get done. getting a really good prep job can make a $500 paint job look every bit as good as a $2000 one.

probably not if you were to do a nice job of wet sanding the clear coat to a nice smooth matte finish, you could get away with spraying some sealer and then a simple color shoot of the exterior. that's what i did with my friends Acura. i just wet sanded down the clearcoat so there was no shiny spots and so it had as little orange peel as possible, threw it in the booth then sealed the car and threw some color on it and it turned out great.

the reason why it cost so much is because of all the labor hours that go into it. tear down, scotch brite/DA, blocking, primer, blocking, maybe more primer, blocking, paint, clear coat. I just did my car a few weeks ago, did all the prep work myself and tear down and got the paint at cost. They told me if I wouldnt had done all that, then it would have been about $6k. You will have a new found respect for the time and effort put into repainting a car if you do it yourself. Before I got it done I was thinking that even $4k sounded crazy, now that I did it myself, $6k sounds reasonable.

I have probably around 100 hours of just prep into my car, painting the car doesnt take long at all and I dont know how to do that so I had a professional paint it. All the money spent goes into prep.
