right now i'm rocking VHT tinted side markers on my black t/a but once this semester is over w/ I plan on taking apart my spare clear side markers and painting the inside reflector housing black. i think that would look cool.

i did a long time a go with my camaro's side markers. it looked okay, but more out of place. since it then just looks like a VERY random rectangle on the side of the car. so i went back to stock, and i like my red side markers a lot more.
with my next car i'll be shaving them like black_sheep454 said. looks much cleaner: https://ls1tech.com/forums/appearanc...unoco-etc.html

I did it. I just used a few light coats - just enough to get the metallic and the color on there. They still light up perfectly fine with the parking lights/headlights (not pictured) and they still reflect in the original color at certain angles in daylight. Convinced my friend with a C6 to do it too and it looks great. I would say just do it and if you don't like it, soak them in Super Clean Degreaser for a day and then wetsand smooth and use a plastic polish to bring out the original color/shine again.
here's a pic showing how ugly a black license plate cover looks:
Reflectors at work (it was pretty dim outside):
