Default Shift **** question

Can someoneexplain the easiest and simplest way I can get a cobra shift **** on my t56? The cobra **** with the aluminum and printed 6 speed pattern on top. Ive looked over the thread that where someone did it and I can't understand what parts were actually needed in reference to the whole shifter setup. I was going to get an LS GTO shift ****, but I can't find one anywhere. Thanks guys

That didnt exactly clarify anything. . I know the threads don't match so can I just bolt on a cobra shaft to a GM pro 5 shifter setup?

Yeah or any shifter really that you can swap out the stick on. A Pro 5.0 is a good choice, I've run one for about 3 years now and like it a lot. Just make sure the stick has both the right threads and no issue bolting up to the shifter.

whats so good about the pro 5 shifters anyway? do they just shift more smoothly and solidly or firmly? Because theyre pretty expensive for something that isnt exactly necessary, maybe I can get a ford **** rod off a stock mustang t5 or t56 that will fit...

PRO 5.0 gives you more of a firm feel than the lose *** stock shifter. More positive shifts and a shorter throw. It also has bump stops that keep you from beating on your transmission so bad and bending shift forks and such. I have one in my camaro and after I drove my car with the new shifter I wanted to call GM and ask then what in the heck they were thinking by putting such a piece of crap shifter in the car from the factory. I also have a Pistol grip shift handle on mine and I LOVE it. It fits perfect in my hand and it helped me with the 2-3 shift.

You will have to bring your shifter to a machine shop to get the threads machined to the ford pattern of the shifter ****. I also have the cobra **** on a 5.0 shifter. I called Pro 5.0 to get the thread patch can't remember what it was, that's what the machine shop will need to get Cobra **** to fit!

do you remember how much the machine shop charged? did they just rethread it or make a new rodbecause that might be expensive on top of getting a pro 5 shifter.
