Default Wrap steering wheel? What should I expect to pay?

I have asked about wrapping a steering wheel before and got a great video that was super detailed. The problem I have is that, frankly, I'm chicken to do it myself. I don't know how to sew, and I don't have the intricacy of skill to trust myself.

So...
What have people paid to have this done?

Me too. Hate my skinny Firebird wheel. Would like to get it wrapped to make the rim thicker.

For the video, check post #5.

Sean: I am pretty afraid of that. I had been expecting about $150-200. But that is a guess too. If it gets as high as $300, perhaps the money savings of just finding an ebony wheel that is in good condition would do the trick. Stupid money!

I am not looking for the covers from Katskinz and similar. They look like they are aftermarket even when they are perfectly installed. I am looking to pull off the original leather, or wrap it in leather including the connecting pieces to the center. Thanks though.

bacon is probably the tastiest option, but i think 1, would start to smell (although that with the leather might be nice at first) and 2, will be too hard to stitch

I dont know if id value a stock ebony wheel over a wrapped one, unless just for the 'bag, in which case just vinyl spray that and wrap the rest, cabron

EDIT: might wanna look into the bacon more (turkey bacon/clear coat 4 smell/longevity, french stitch for durability?

Get the extra thick bacon, put a torch to it so most of slimieness goes away and dip it in shelack about ten times. Done. Makes quite the conversation piece.

But here's a warning, expect to get pulled over more.

well i dont think you would be able to get an oem piece so any way you go will be aftermarket.

I want to get mine wrapped at some point too. Partly to repair all the wear the wheel currently has.

I forgot to mention that I asked for a different stitching pattern. I don't know if it affected the quote or not. I asked that instead of 1 big piece of leather being used for the top ring like stock, that 3 pieces should be used.

I asked for that because that's the way my GXP's steering wheel is, and it looks good with the top and bottom pieces being the same length.

I doubt it effected your quote at all . Those simple seem stitches require little effort , you just have to use a little more math cutting your patterns . If anything would drive the price up a little, it would be the type of stitching used to sew up the wrap . A diamond stitch like u see in a BMW ect. is bit more involved than a basic criss-cross like the f-cars and GP's used .

$300 is gonna be your average though on price .

I will shoot you a PM when I do my wheel , shift ****/boot and ebrake handle . If u havent done it yet I will do yours when I do mine . I just dont have the time at the moment . Im using ebony alcantara microsuede( the real stuff) . Not sure if you have any interest in that material , with the minimum quantity I have to order I will have enuff left of it to do another wheel .

Excellent man, THANKS! I haven't decided on material, but the alcantara would give a unique look. I am just afraid of having too many things going on in the car. I might go with the Oxen style vinyl (same as the ebony seats used - had to look long and through a lot of up-close samples to find that one!), but the alcantara...mmmm, tasty!
