Re: HID wannabe lights...Rice or Nice?
I voted for nice but I think it depends. I think the lights that put out a definite blue color are
Lights that are brighter & whiter are nice.

Re: HID wannabe lights...Rice or Nice?
personally' i wouldnt get the fake ones. anyone that knows the differance can tell really easy. the intenisty of the light is no where near as bright. they put a blue coating on the bulb that normally makes it dimmer. save for the real thing, once you have them you wont want to drive without them.after having them on my camaro i put a set on my prelude. they have gone down in price by almost half. camaros use a 9006 setup, check out www.HIDKITS.COM expensive but well worth it,anyway fake ones in my opinion are pointless.

From some of the things I've been reading, even the true HID conversion kits with the bulbs and ballasts won't match the OEM systems in luxury cars. I haven't seen any kits yet that include the projector lenses you need for the beam cutoff. I've only seen custom installations so far.

Ive been looking into HID's and researching on them for awhile now. If you buy from a reputable company they are just as good if not better than stock HID's. If you buy a real HID set, the only difference is the quality of which they are made and the kevlar temp. Factory HIDs burn around 4300K. You can get 6000 - 8000K. The higher they burn the more blue they appear. 4300K - 6000K is usually what most people would want. I assure you that HIDs are the s**t. Driving with them makes a world of difference. Why do you think top end cars have them? And if you could make more clear what you mean by the "beam cut off"? If you talking about blinding people, all you do is aim your lights down. There is no need for a different headlight housing. Its just a switch in your bulbs and a ballasts.

i've always been a fan of HID lights. They're just too expensive right now. I give em a while and they'll come down in price. Then i'll get a set

Until you can afford the HID's try some Sylvania Silver Stars. They are not the Wanna be Blue Bulbs at ALL. They're just High performance halogens and they operate in the 4k Range. They make a very noticeable difference on the light output compared to the yellowish standard Halogens.

Why? Because it's not all about the HID capsules (bulbs) as you may think. The bulbs account for 50% of the HID look. The other 50% is the headlamp housing assembly. If you look at Mercedes assembly, you'll see a glass "ball" in there. Thats a projection assembly, as opposed to the BWMs that have a reflector assembly. They way the light is bounced back and forth and displayed on the road is all about the headlamp, the bulbs just provide the lighting. Just so you know, all the luxury vehicles use a 4100k bulb, and they all beam the same white color in front of the vehicle. The reason BMW look blue from far away and Audi's looks purple from far away, etc. is b/c of each company's style of headlamp assembly. They all are designed differently, giving them their own respective "signature" HID look. For example, when your on a road and you see a BMW coming from far away, it looks blue b/c of the angle you see it at. If you've ever seen a BMW,Mercedes, etc go over a speed bump at night, you'll see how the colors change. If you've even been inside one of these cars, you'll notice that the light it gives is a nice bright white, and not some ricer blue bulb. HID bulbs are clear and have no blue tint on them. The only DOT legal HID conversion I've heard of (for trucks) are the Sylvania Xenarcs. Those I've heard are excellent, and for less than $500, you can't beat the price.

Watch your back whatever you do, its a new thing to go and rip off those high end HID/hyper white lights now.

real hid's also have autoleveling controls.
Its cool to be getting on your M3, and the headlights move down, then when your done getting on it, they move back up.
