Default Opinions on a classic Pontiac look on a 4th gen Formula..

Been thinking of some things to do to my Formula to set it apart and here's something I've come up with. On the classic pontiacs the engine bay was always black with the block painted that light blue..what would you guys think if I did that to my red 98 formula? Red car, black engine bay, painted the block/heads the light blue from back in the day, and then did some polish/chrome treatment on the top of the engine?

*Car is also my daily so would it even be worth it to try and keep it clean? Tips on keeping a WHOLE engine clean easily?

Something like this..

I like the more stock look with little touches here and there, I always thought this guy had the best bay,not crazy about the lid,but this is a lot of hard work right here

Psycho, i have been thinking about doing the same thing. I like the way that old pontiacs look, but i am still a bit unsure if our enginewould lend itself to looking good black. Try searching it on google. i found a few pics there.

im working on a throw back version of my trans am as well, and there are two different paints used on the engines, and im not sure what years they are varied or were used from/till...

Engine paint:
1) silver blue 13255 or 181-97219,
2) plasticote #227 blue metallic (67) or duplicolor blue metallic de #1616

also i believe the pontiac 455 SD used a red or chevy orange color on the block?

I'm thinking about a retro theme for my Formula too, it's actually something I've wanted to do for a year or tow.

I wasn't thinking so much about the engine bay, but the exterior. I'm looking at some 2nd gen graphics, such as the hood bird and a matching rear filler panel, or maybe going with "Formula" rocker decals.

Not sure yet, still looking around.

Are you thinking exterior wise too, or just engine bay? I'm thinking that blue might look cool, but seems like a PITA. If you were to do that, a polished aluminum intake would look real nice.

That would look pretty good.

I was just thinking the engine bay..paint it black, block/heads blue, then like chrome valve covers and a polished manifold maybe..idk how it would look really though if I did decide to do it

That engine bay is super clean, the only thing i don't like is the painted lower airbox.

FWIW- Black engine bay will show EVERY speck of road dust especially on a daily driver.

Since were whoring engine bays:

NOT a daily driver...

Here you go:

Painted my block "Pontiac Metallic Blue" and love the color offset with the red. I know it's not an ls1 but same concept:
