Question Tinting dot matrix - is sanding the bumps a solution?

I have heard that good shops will sand the dot matrix so the tint will stick to it. I am wondering if this is a permanent solution as far as tint goes or if it will start to detach in a year or not look uniformly attached etc. Will shops warranty tint on a dot matrix window if they sand it or is that custom?

The reason I ask is I don't want the black vinyl or the spray paint etc.

What ive heard from a friend that worked in a tint shop, is that the installer is suppose to put black vinyl where the dot matrix is, now...i could of heard him wrong or he could be wrong, but it does make sense if you think about it. I have tint on my dot matrix on my trunk and it never looked right since the day i got it from the tint shop, i just forgot to bring it back to them to fix it. I would go to the tint shop and just talk it over. See how they do there process and ask them about the dot matrix and see what they do to deal with that.

No need for either. Once the car is tinted... let it bake in the sunlight for a couple of days. I took my license every 2-3 hours during the hot hours and just kept flattening it out to make it adhere at the matrix. 2 years later and it is still holding.

Thats what I did also. Came out great. It helps that I had one of the best tint guys around doing it.

OK, my turn to ask the dopey question of the night, what kind of black vinyl and where is the best place to get it? Been wanting to do something about that crappy setup for years, just never got around to it

paint it and be done with it.

That being said, a good tint shop can make it look nice just the way it is. I paid more for my tint job but...its done and it will last forever.
