Default targa top question

So I was wanting to switch to a targa top at one point and I was just wondering if anyone with one could tell me what they did for a headliner or did you just leave it off. And how's the noise level?

That's the easiest part. After slicing out the center bar section, reshape the cut areas with a little bit of fiberglass matting. You can use aluminum tape that's made for home AC ducting to hold the fiberglass in place from the bottom while it dries. Then when it's dry, simply recover the two separate pieces in new headliner material.

Ah well hell yea seems simple enough. And that car is clean, how did you do that grill? Just put the billet grill behind the bumper or custom cut it.

That was all custom stuff that I made back in 2001.
I parted it out when I needed money for college and a friend had a little ended bender in his car and needed parts. The grills were made from aluminum stock, welded together and painted satin black, then I polished the face of them. If I were doing it over again today, I wouldn't change much on that car.. It was a blast. It'd have an LS3 in it instead of the heads/cam LS1, the wheels would be some HRE P40sc in 19/20 instead of 20/20 and I'd do the grills in a stainless mesh like the new Caddy V series cars.
I miss it!

I used thick carbon fiber using a section of OEM roof skin as a mold that Mark got me from a local junkyard. I crushed the car because it sat outside for a while after I sold parts off it, I couldn't stand to look at it any more and didn't have the $$ or time back then to hook it back up.
I still have the Targa roof in my garage for a keepsake

remember you need to reinforce the unibody/frame before you cut out the center T brace or the body will warp.

I used boxed BMR subframe connectors, and hammered over the rocker pinch weld so it could be stitch welded to the SFC. I added about a foot of 2x3 box tubing flushed into the unibody in the front and rear so that nothing hung low and it could be integrated into the rest of the framerails. I'm not sure how necessary any of this was, but I wanted to be on the safe side. I drove it cross country on the Power Tour and daily drove it for years with no changes in roof fitment.

Pulling into a steep driveway at an angle with your hand on the roof seam you could feel it move around a little which was to be expected.

So you added the boxed tubing to each end of the subframe connecters... to tie them in to the front and rear frame rail? Am I understanding right?

I think the roof moves around now with the t-tops. lol

That was a popular car back in the day on CZ28, haven't seen that pic for years. I still have the others on an old hard drive somewhere. Still looks damn good.
