Default Car cover?

Not sure where to post this one but I have to keep my car out of a garage for a couple weeks. Is a cheap Oriellys car cover going to really **** the car up? It's for 2 weeks. Really just to keep dust and dirt off because its parked right next to construction zone. And the dirt here sucks real bad.

If you cover the car dirty, you'll marr the finish. Get a good windy day, it will marr the finish. 2 weeks or 2 years doesn't matter....you can marr the finish in minutes.

Buy cheap products, add a bad environment and a little bit of mother nature and don't be surprised what you may get.

It's only two weeks. Do you really need to invest in a cover for only 2 weeks of use?

I wouldn't call a "cheap O'Riellys cover" an investment.

I don't think it should hurt for two weeks. but it's better to have a good quality cover. Got my car cover from coverquest.com if you want to check it out and see if there's one that fit your budget.

So why do you think it wouldn't hurt Langford? Sounds like the "eh it'll be fine" kind of assumption.

What would you call an investment grade cover? I drive daily except for summer days when i have no school or when it snows. So it needs to be a all weather cover. I heard the NOAH cover is very good, but would like to here from a professional like yourself.

Covering a car that is dirty will cause scratches, swirls, scuffs, etc... This includes something as simple as a 5 min drive or just leaving it outside for a day its going to collect dust. Moving a cover across the surface will have a negative affect on the finish. I would never cover a car outdoors. Only inside and only directly following a wash.

I don't know how snow would effect the car without the cover as I have always lived in CA where we don't get snow.

Often times, covers (and the state of the car when its covered by the owner) do more damage than good.

So it really wouldn't be worth having a cover? I mean I take good care of my car but it really needs to get a full polish which I am having done next spring. It's the original black paint after 10 years. It's needs alittle TLC but I still get alot of compliments on how clean it is.

Unless its going to be covered in feet of snow (which I would find a garage/storage if thats the case) and that snow may slide off, potentially scratching the paint, no, I don't think its a good idea. But since I don't live in the snow I don't know if that is a real problem or a perceived potential problem, its hard to say. But generally covers cause more problems than they solve. Though they are plenty of people who believe in them and I've had clients cover their cars after having me detail it and with perfect paint...covered outdoors and the next time I see it, I can see marks left by the cover. Some people just don't care or they don't see it.

Alright we'll I will probably not worry about it to much. I just hate those summer days with the sun beating down on the car in the driveway. I try to keep it in the shade but sometimes it's not always possible. I would rather get minor paint problems from just being a DD the. Trying to cover it and just making it worse.

Why is the sun on the car a problem?

Wouldn't that cause the paint to fade faster?

Car covers always come in handy You might want to at least buy a semi good one for future use.

That's what wax and sealants are for. They are the sacrificial barrier for your paint. As long as you maintain it right, the paint will not fade.
