Detailing guys inside....
I decided to be a nice little son, and detail the mother's car today. I noticed that there was specks of yellow paint all over the car from where she had driven through wet paint So I used an abrasive on some of the spots and noticed that it dulled the paint.
My question is....what can I use to bring back the shine and secondly is there anything else besides that abrasive **** I could use, possibly a clay bar?
Now here comes the problem, my buddy thinks he can just use clear coat in a can to get the shine back. Well he sprayed the **** on the car while I was inside and now it looks like ****. How should I go about getting this crap off? I was possibly thinking wetsanding?
I would really appreciate some help.
Thanks,
Mike

what abrasive did you use on the car?
and a claybar would have been the right product to remove paint over spray.
As for removing the rattle can stuff, I'm not quite sure, maybe a little paint thinner, but very little at a time. Don't do anything like this until some of the other guys post.
I wouldn't recommend wetsanding to you either. Most factory clearcoats are very thin and (guessing here) by the sound of things you haven't had a ton of experience in that type of stuff.
You will have to compound and polish the paint to restore the shine.

If you spayed WD-40 on the new rattler paint within 30mins it would have taken it off no problem... and yea you should have originally used a clay bar to get the yellow dots off. About the dullness, a good polish (ie: 3M) should bring the shine back. Dunno how you'll take that new paint off though if you let it sit...

Well I talked with my boss who grew up working in a body shop. I think on wednesday were gonna wetsand it and then buff the paint to get it shiney again.
Hopefully everything works out well.
I did crack the kid really hard in the arm with full force.

good to hear you did that.
clay will take off some, but there was a thread a while back about some road paints that are heated like 400 degrees which really wreakes havoc on the paint....
