Default 99 Z28 - Interior Restoration Project

I thought I'd make a thread about this and also request some suggestions as well while I'm at it. My 99 Z28 is still pretty peppy but age is definitely showing in her. Mechanically its holding up pretty fair for its age and mileage (200,000 miles holding to 100 mile round trip commutes 5 to 6 days a week.) I finally paid it off so I wanted to restore some youth to it.

My dashboard is cracked. My first desire was to have it remolded and then leather wrapped, but I hear its not as easy and straight forward as it sounds on a broken dash. I may just obtain a replacement and this specifically is what I had in mind:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/281765611204?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
I'm missing floormats altogether, but my carpet was lumpy in several areas, although its new, it was poorly installed, or is the wrong carpet altogether. I am going to worry about the carpet itself alittle later but I wanted to get some decent floor mats:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/380734087789?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
My seat belt guide on the passenger side is completely missing. The one on the Drivers Side is the wrong color and its also cracked. My seats are Tan Leather so I was going to go with:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/321825117092?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&
http://www.ebay.com/itm/291049807329?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
My sunvisors and headliner are literally rotting.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/111782451450?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&
http://www.ebay.com/itm/311457512429?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
For the headliner I was going to have it shipped with the fabric already installed but I wanted to know if anyone could advise me if that headliner will be okay, reason I ask is I've heard alot of fitment issues with the plastic ABS headliners.

Next issue is my interior lighting.. alot of them are dead. Specifically my shifting column (auto trans), my HVAC controls, driver side door illumination, and also the back seat dome light.

I wanted to re mediate all my interior lights with LED's, but wasnt sure what color and more importantly which bulbs. I know there are plug and play 194's, ect but I also know that LED's dont scatter light as easily as normal bulbs plus the possibility of fitment issues. For color I was leaning toward Hyper White to make sure everything remained visible, toyed with the idea of Orange as my car is orange, but not sure.

Opinions?

I'll be curious how the new dash fits. That's a great price.

Just as an update, this is still ongoing. To date I've replaced the seatbelt guides (and they actually make a nice addition to the old car, makes it look less abused. Also, the headliner and the sunvisors are on their way. The dashboard will be the last part I tackle.

If you decide to pick up new carpet (lumpy), check the price at rockauto. I picked up my carpet and headliner from them cheaper than the ebay prices, and the quality is great.

never thought to check rock auto for the interior stuff, headliner on the way. Yeah it needs new carpet as well. I've heard you have to be-careful about the carpet selection as not every brand is a great fit, am I wrong?

That's true. However. I found that the ones they carry fit pretty good. I bought the one without the padding attached. That way you can modify it if you need to easily. If you add fatmax or any other sound deadener, large power wires, etc under the carpet you can trim the padding to go around it instead of leaving a big hump.

No problem! I don't mind paying for quality, but, if a little time doing some free research will save me a buck I'm going to do it. It's amazing how much price variance you can find for the same part.

My wife jokes around that if I could I would squeeze a penny into a dime. I always reply that if she would quit spending a dollar like it was a dime then I wouldn't have to!

My headliner arrived but they forgot to ship my sun visors so they are coming next week sometime. When they arrive then I'll install everything and take before / after photos.

Meanwhile I am having other stuff done. Front fascia is getting a black grille and 69 Z28 Emblems all the way around.

For the interior I only have the carpet and the floor mats left.

I found out btw that the original carpet color of my car was tan, however; someone replaced it with black carpet and left lumps all over the place. Should I go back with Tan or leave it black / charcoal? My interior is Tan Leather.

That is definitely a personal preference choice there bud. But, I'll throw out a couple of questions I'd ask myself in your situation.
Does the black tie in other black pieces in the car?
Will that much area suddenly turned tan overload the interior of the car with one color? (it will lighten up the inside a bit though)

Personally, if I had several black pieces in my interior, I'd keep black carpet in it.

Dont get the seatbelt guides with the slit in them. Seatbelt slides out of it sometimes and really annoying.

Too late

It happens here and there but I dont really care too much, still doing better than the old guides were doing plus now I can slide them out to move the seat up and punish someone to sit in the back

So I have a dellima. I'm replacing the headliner right now (before it started raining) and I cant get the Seat Belt trim to snap back in place. Also the center dome light in the rear doesnt seem to fit right either. The screws are screwed all the way in and holding it intact but there's still alittle slack in the front of the dome light where you can see between it and the headliner.

The Seat Belt trim, well..it will partially snap on but some of it is sitting against the headliner board and wont slide into the seatbelt mechanism. I cant seem to adjust it.

I managed to get the headliner install, the fit isnt "perfect" but not terrible either. There is one minor thing I'm running into though. The center dome light in the backseat near the hatch, I can't seem to properly attach it. It's screwed in as tight as it will go but there's a noticable gap between it and the headliner and roof of the car. Any trick on fitting this piece?
