Default taillight panel

ive been trying to find out exactly how other ta guys blacked out the rear filler panel between the two taillight. i used nailpolish remover to take off the paint, and then i sanded down the raised letter where it used to say Firebird. but what do i use to polish it back to its original shine?

3m makes some stuff called Finesse-it. That should do the trick

I just bought mine from "PontiacFan" on this board. You can pm him/her to find out what they use.

PM sent, ...

Thanks 5.7, Hope it's still looking good!

And yes, it's "Him", ...

Oh, & to answer the question, ..., I actually use Zaino's Plastic Polish to finish it up, after a few beginning steps to get to that point anyway, ...

Good Luck!

(I have one now ready to go if anyone's interested!)

Pontiac Fan, do you know how I would get one that doesnt have a key hole. I think it breaks up the flow of the back end. I dont know if it can be done. I would even take a plastic piece that goes over that part so that if needed I can pop it off in a hatch opening emergancy.

Don't think you can buy one anywhere.

There are a couple of people here that have tried to do the 'cover the lock hole' on the filler panel before tho.

Never have seen a photo of anyone's finished product tho.

You can buy the simple little keyhole lock cover, which is nothing more than a 3/4"-1" sized poly-like decal.

I imagine there's probably a way you could use body filler & then paint it to match, but I don't think it would really match that well. Just wouldn't be the same.

Sorry to be the straggler, but how much for one?

Any cheaper if I send mine and let you do it, or just to buy one?

Thanks,
Taco

I'm not sure of the part number but the tail lamp filler panel for the '97 Formula is completely blacked out.
