Default Door Molding & Trans Am Emblem removal question**

Greetings,

I read alot of posts on the door moldings (ding protector), and trans am emblem removal. So I decided to remove these.

Getting them off is fairly easy, but I was unable to remove all of the leftover adhesive.

I used a heavy duty engine cleaner. It said de-greaser, dirt removal, so I figured it would work for this. It worked decent, but there is still a little residue.

The residue that I am referring to is like a 2 millimeter tall strip that continues the length of the door. It is leftover from the bottom part of the adhesive tape. It basically looks like a small marker in the color a little darker than pewter was taken in a straight line horizontally across my door. Therefore the removal of the adhesive was probably 95% successful.

I am wondering how to get that last 5%.

I tried a razor blade, but that wasn't working well and it was removing some of the clear coat.

Any one have any ideas?

Thanks.

When I did this I used Adhesive Remover by Duck. That worked wll enough, but I also used something my Step father let me use but the name of it escapes me but I'll edit it in when i find out.

I used some stuff called Goo Gone.... took a little scrubbing, but didn't hurt the clearcoat. It's pretty cheap too.

What did you guys use to scrub the adhesive?

I am using a kind of dull brush and paper towel. Is there something else I should be using?

Goo Gone and a plastic spatula from the kitchen did it for me when removing the letters. Another trick is to soak a paper towel in Goo Gone and lay it on the area and let it soak in for 10-15 minutes. Spraying it every so often to keep the area wet while waiting. Don't use a razor, to risky.

I used Goo Gone (orange colored stuff at Lowes) and a cotton ball. Came right off.

I also had used a heat gun to heat up the emblems when removing them. That may have prepped the left over adhesive for easy removal.

Yep, heat really makes it easier. Let the car sit out in the sun a few hours before trying it again. If it's cold outside it's going to be harder to remove the adhesive.

GooGone and claybar here. Heat helps; I used a hairdryer to heat it up first plus it was 65 degrees out ( last fall ).

just use some thick fishing line or dental floss to remove them. use it like a saw to cut through the adhesive. and then you can use the methods mentioned in this thread to remove the left over adhesive.
