Default Cleaner Headlights, and Shinier Wheels?

1. My headlights are very... "worn" looking, for a lack of better term. They are swirl-mark heaven, and dim/grungy looking. I want shiny, crystal clear headlights. Is there any way to remedy this other than buying new headlights? Someone told me Mother's Alluminum would actually shine the lights up, but I tried it on a small section and it didn't seem to do any good.

2. I've got the alloy wheels, which have that somewhat shiny "glossy" look to them. My friend says I can get that enamel off there, and then polish the wheels to the point where they look nearly like chrome. Is this possible or is he crazy? =p He said you would only need to re-polish them every year or so, and that the enamle would wear off some day anyway.

OMG, that is EXACTLY what I needed! Thanks a ton!

Any thoughts on the wheels? I'm planning on testing it on a small section on the inside that's out of site.

Which wheels do you have? Stock painted wheels? If so, you don't want to use Mother's Mag & Aluminum polish on them... It (and other metal polishes) is only for bare metal surfaces. If you rub it on a small hidden section of your wheel and it does NOT turn black, stop immediately because it is the wrong product.

If you have stock painted wheels, basically you want to treat them like the paint on your car's body. Clay bar, polish, wax, etc.

Mine aren't the painted ones. I have the alloy wheels. He said to use "gasket remover" to get the protective coating off and then use alluminum polish to polish them up. He used it on his '85 corvette wheels and had "left them sitting outside for 2 years in Mobile, AL (one of the rainiest cities) while up at college and all they did was get 'cloudy' and he just polished them again."
