Default POLISHED Valve covers PICS!!

Here is a little side project i have taken on.....

I still have a little ways to go yet on the polished one and a LONG way to go on the non polished one. Just waiting for my stuff from Eastwood to finish up. I'll post again when they are ready to go back on the car..

OK I was going to paint mine - how did you go about polishing them? Might have to go a different direction. I wonder how hard they would be to keep nice and shiny?

I was thinking about doing that a few months back, but there was still the issue with the coil packs beeing in the way.

Sanded them up to 600 dry, wetsanded at 1000 and then got a benchtop polisher from sears and the polishing compound bars from sears as well... (i was going to get the parts for my drill.. but i thought what the heck.. i'll just get the benchtop, besides.. you'll have to see my exhaust )

All im waiting on is the sanding rolls and tapers from eastwood so i can get the nooks and crannies... then once more on the polisher.

It takes some time, but its worth it. Besides, now the dirt just easily wipes off them and cant get stuck in the crappy casting marks.

Did the same thing to my covers, fuel manifold and exh. manifold heat shields. Now my 45yr old B&D drill is hard at work on caliper brackets.

Arent the caliper brackets Zinc coated for corrosion resistance? Polishing them will allow them to rust faster.

I usually dont polish anything that is steel unless i put a coating of some sort back on it.

You are right. They will rust unless clear coated or something to seal the finish.
