Default Brake rotor rust

I figured Id post this here because its cosmetic. It drives me nuts seeing the rust on my rotors. Its on the parts where the pad doesnt touch (so driving doesnt get rid of it). I have the "Non Chlorinated Brake Cleaner" but that wont remove the rust for ****, anyone know of anything that gets rid of it easily?

There are rotors with this area painted on eBay. I suspect most people would be happy with:

- Wire brush clean up
- Rattle can job using high-temp paint, caliper paint, something like that.

It won't last forever but I'd bet it will make you happy. I'm going to do mine when I do the inside of my rims and my calipers.

I had my rotor hats powdercoated black when I bought the drilled rotors. No problems with rust on that section.

This is what I did, I love the way it turned out, and couldent be happier. 3 coats of black, 3 coats of clear and let it dry. I had to do something on my day off.

I don't want to start a huge flame war, but cross drilled and slotted rotors have a few negatives going for them. Do your own research before going out and buying new rotors. I'd also assume that these rotors must have a zinc plating on them, otherwise they'll just rust in the same way. I would recommend that if you do decide to buy new rotors, go ahead with brakes at the same time. Pads and rotors should be new together.

Industry standard zinc plating offers anywhere from about 86 - 168 hours of salt spray resistance. You'll get the same level of protection from a good paint job.

My honest opinion is that if you just hate the look of the rust you'll be much better off just using the wire brush and paint method. Buy the brake upgrades when you really need brakes.

Eastwood brake drum and rotor paint is excellent. Color is close to cast metal, it holds up well, repels dust, and looks great. Use a wire brush to clean the rust a bit and then give them a few coats.

I thought drilled and slotted rotors were worse than regular rotors. They crack and warp sooner and also they cause you pads to wear sooner. Is this correct??

They have a cheese grater effect on your pads, and they can crack along the slots, well, cheap ones can... but hey, they look pimp!
