Default Did you have any problems when you removed the side moldings?

Well I planned on removing the side moldings off my car this weekend if I get the chance. I was gunho about it until I came accross a thread started a few days ago about it, and it stated that it left a wierd discolored area. Some people even put the moldings back on.

So, here it is. If you removed your side moldings, did you encounter any problems (besides the process to remove them)?

Your car is pretty new, and as long as it hasn't been sitting in the hot sun every day of it's life, and as long as no part of it had been painted, you won't have any problems.

My car was painted, the rear fender on the driver side was keyed so it was painted and the door was blended. On the work order they stated that they removed the moldings for this and reinstalled them. They didn't. As a result, I have a thin line running across where the bottome of the rear molding and door molding used to be, but it's barely noticeable. The other side came out perfect, and this is on a 98. Yes, my car lives in the garage most of the time, but there was no fade at all.

Just use a hair dryer to heat it up and peel off the molding, then carefully use your thumb and take the goo off, I took my time and had no blisters as a result.

I was going to use some fishline to remove it. I'm also planning on taking some other badges off that the previous owner put on.

no problems here. It's a 2000 and there was no discoloration or signs of fading

No need for fishing line...trust me...you won't need it. A good hair dryer will do the job for you, no need scratching anything up with fishing line....at least as far as the molding is concerned.

It's like 40* here, so I figured with the fishing line it would kinda pop off.

it will "pop it off" but the theres the double sided "tape" underneath it. best to heat it up or wait for a very warm day and VERY CAREFULLY peel it off. dont be in hurry to get if off, itll come off, be patient, youll be thankful later.

I got a blister on my thumb from rubbing the tape off...
other than that, no problems.

I got blisters on mine as well. Took a week to heal both thumbs back up, lol.

No fade here, but mine is also a 2002. I love the look.

You guys must be using the wrong technique to get blisters like that. I didn't get any at all, and I didn't use any sort of "protection" either.

My thumbs rule I guess!

Do you guys have any pics? I was thinking about doing this but wasn't sure if I would like the way it looked afterwards.

I just pulled mine off- slowly. No stinkin hair dryer, no stinkin fishing line. I just made sure to get it started properly and pulled slowly. The double stick came up with the molding (mostly). Yes, there was some thumb damage. I think it helped that there was only 3000 miles on the car and it was in the summer.

Well I have one of those salamander heator I could put by it and let it get the car warm. But so far, I think I'll do it. 16 people have said they had success, with three said no.

Both sides done in under 20 minutes. Heated the hell out of them and pulled slowly, barely left any tape on the car.

I did mine on a warm summer day after letting the car sit in the sun for a few hours. Came off no problems and almost no residue whatsoever. The car was only 2 years old when I did it so that helps too.
