Automatic shifter console sliders
Those of us with automatics have those stupid shifter sliders around the shifter. Anyways mine rattle like a biotch after i ditched the exhaust tips and are using turn downs. How to do these retarded things come out. im so tired of holding them while driving so they will be quiet. do they just pop out? or do I have the take the console out to get to them?
I will be examining the sliders and and area to possibly using a stainless steel plate that moves with the shifter. But in the mean time i just want those damn rattling slides out.
thanks
Jeff

They will come out but there a pain to get back in. You will have to remove the console. I opted to use a M6 upper console, you can't access 1st or 2nd gear but no more rattles and it looks alot better. I left the auto shifter **** on it. I get quite a few compliments on it.

removal of the console huh. To remove the console i will need to remove the shifter and 2 bolts that are in the actual console under the coin thing. any other spots i do not know of..
As for under the sliders. it it really ugly under there or it decent enough to look at each day.

great, guess i need to take the console off and get some measurements so i can look for something to put in place of the sliders.. UGH
Anyone else solve this problem any way other than the use of the M6 console?

I replaced my sliders with a leather shift boot.

I though by the crapiness of the sliders appearance from the outside it would be very crude inside the cosole. This is not the case. It will be tough to figure something that will work better than the sliders. SO I decided to examine the actual sliders and took them out. I could tell where they had been touching and sliding/ rubbing on each other. Taped some with electrical tape so there is a tighter fit and added some grease so everything still moves relatively easy. I have not drove the car yet, but it seems to be firmer and hopefully there is minimal plastic on plastic contact so it doesnt rattle any more. We will see tonight.
If this works for a couple months i will be happy!

and the update:
well no rattling or moving of the sliders. its slighly more difficult to pull the car into gear but still realtively easy. feels more firm now. Some of the slides are tighter than others and dont want to completely cover the entire area when I pull the car into OD or D. But i dont think that will be a problem after a couple drives and shifts from D to the other gears. Overall im happy if it stays like this for a few months.
I caught myself reaching to hold them while driving to school today

lol. I feel soooooo stupid. Whenever I had my cutout open I got a rattling in my interior and I could never figure out where the hell it was coming from.... I am getting my car out next week and I guarantee thats what it is....
