Thumbs down one tail light is brighter. ahhh

well i forgot about this until my buddy was driving behind me the other day.

back in my mustang days i use to make fun of 4th gen firebirds because the right tail light is brighter than the left one when the lights are on.

i just remembered this when he was telling me my right tail light is brighter, so i got out of my car and looked and it is brighter, ive seen multiple birds like this.

So what do you guys do to fix this or do you guys not care because your not looking at the rear of the car.

i want it to look nice for the people im racing

My 00 TA's tail lights were perfectly fine. My 02 TA's tail lights are just like you're describing. Water gets inside the lens and eats away the reflective stuff (chrome-like sheet) on the inside of the lens that helps reflect the light outward .

Mine will need replacing too...my passenger side is really damn dark. My drivers side isn't perfect either but i'll end up replacing them both.

What I would like to know, and i'm sure others would too, is what preventative measures can we take to make sure our NEW lights stay new and don't crap out again? I don't think they are cheap.

well this is the question on my mind now, how much do replacement tail lights cost and where do you think they would be the cheapest to buy them from.

As far as cheapest? I'd say eBay or search online salvage yards, but they're not new (ie they could have the problem or the beginning of the problem already).

Anyone know if you can run some silicone sealant around the edges, or something to prevent condensation in the future?

Also 180, is that per tail or for two?

Here is what we're talking about...my passenger side light is mostly affected:

And here is what I want it to look like:

Mine don't look anything like that. Are they that red stock, or are those somehow modified?

What would be better to prevent good lights from going bad again...

Sealing around the edges better

or

Drilling a couple holes in the bottom for drainage?

Or both? Prevent water getting in them from the top by sealing them with silicone, but have some holes in the bottom in case it happens anyway. Because the problem is if water gets in it will never make its way out.

I have the same problem with the taillights on my WS6, and yeah... it's from water getting inside. My driver's side tail light has a leak in it, and it started growing algae on the inside of the light. Only real way I can fix it is to replace the tail light.

Quick Reply: one tail light is brighter. ahhh
