Rotary buffer dilemma
My wife bought me a cordless rotary buffer for Father's day. It is not an orbital buffer. I'm kinda scared to use it after reading some of the threads on them. Should I take it back and get a Porter Cable? Or just be very careful? I don't want to hurt her feelings but I don't want to hurt my paint either.

I'm with them - MUCH better off with the PC - just explain it to her nicely she'll understand. I usually just give my wife the exact info on what to buy me or a direct link to the site - she's really into cars but doesn't always know all the little details...

Return it and get the PC. Like I tell my wife: I appreciate the gift, but this is what I need. Then she says " I didn't know" Then you say " Thank you for the time you spent finding a gift". Also explain a repaint is next if you don't know what you are doing with the rotary. Everybody stays happy.

Thanks for the info guys. I don't trust myself to not get in a hurry one day and screw up my paint. I'm definitely taking it back and going with the PC. It's not worth saving a hundred bucks and spending it on paint instead. So from what I hear it's pretty hard to mess up with the PC right? Has anyone ever burned through with one?

without using it as a hammer, the worst you can do with a PC is create a little extra work for yourself by using the wrong pad or product, but it is very hard to damage anything with it ..
