Default Rattle-y hurst ****

I have the hurst black **** with the 6 speed pattern on it...it rattles like crazy. It's not the shifter itself, because if you take the **** off it goes away. I have tried using teflon tape and it's still noisy...I assume it is the tapped metal part of the **** rattling against the plastic of the **** itself.

Does anyone know how to fix this? I don't like the stock **** so I don't want to go back to that...this **** is really the only one I like...

My white hurst **** did the same thing because it wouldn't stay tight. I put some blue loctite on the threads, let it sit overnight and it's good to go.

Looking at it from an engineering standpoint..

You have excessive clearance between two parts. So that clearance needs to be removed, or cushioned so that the two parts wont vibrate. (plastic inner sleeve & Hurst ****)

The two methods listed in above posts should do the trick. Some bonding RTV silicone, or JB Weld.

Make sure the part is "clocked" in the precise rotation you want for a lifetime, take reference points, remove the parts to a bench, and finish the deal. Make sure you let it cure properly so you don't have it halfway come off, and then you have a hardened build-up mess to deal with on the re-try.

Mine did the same thing so I twisted it tight enough that the threaded insert twisted looses. Then I removed the insert and used some Sea going epoxy to bond it back in. Its been about 2 years since with no problems at all.

I can live with the noise so as long as my shifter is still removable.. JB Weld it on and it'll never come off that stick.

You're not seeing it.

It's the plastic insert that is glued inside of the shifter ****. After it's repaired you still screw the **** back onto the shaft just like normal. The **** isn't bonded to the shaft.
