just picked up Mothers Clay Bar...
Ok guys I got my car back after having it sit for over a year and I think it is time for a nice workover on the paint. I have everything that I could possibly need to get the job done, and most recently picked up a mothers clay bar. I read the directions on how to use it and it seems pretty simple. But as with every other thing I know there are certain methods and orders of application that will get you better results. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Wash the car first before you clay. Get the top surface dirt off first.
By using a clean bucket of soapy water it provides a good lubricant to slide the clay bar across using a back and forth motion. DONT DROP IT.
Mother clay is a good brand to use.
And your going to need to wax after using the bar.

Wash the car and dry it.. they spray it down again.. i use a spray bottle with a few drops of Dawn just to lubricate the water.. Then use the clay bar and spray bottle to go over the whole car.. I like the spray bottle over the soap bucket, the spray bottle dont hold dirt etc.. Once you have done the whole car.. Wash it again, dry it and then Polish or Wax..
Alot of prep, but it will pay off..

The Mothers Clay bar should come with a bottle of Quick Detail spray to use as a lube. I personally never used Mothers Clay bar so I'm not sure how well it works with soap and water for lube.
Wash car
Clay bar with a quick detail spray.. (recommended)
wash car
paint cleaner (optional)
Polish (optional)
Wax of your choice.

Just make sure you use alot of the quick detailer. If the clay touches a dry car it will stick to it and it will be a real hard time getting it off.
A ton of fresh clean soapy water is a safer and better lubricant.

i would make sure to wash the car multiple times before claying if its been sitting for while, there will be some crap still on it that you cant see that the clay may rub around and scratch the clear. how far into polishing are you taking it, porter cable, or rotary?

oh Mothers clay bar is pretty good eh?
Nice, i was thinking of picking that one up at autozone instead of ordering elsewhere online. they had a mothers clay package with the lubricant and maybe even wax also included.. i forget.
interesting info about the soap and water as lubricant.

Once you clay the car, and follow all the steps with the Zaino system, you don't ever have to clay again, is this right?
In Hawaii I don't think we have acid rain (yet) or industrial fallout or whatever nasty stuff you guys on the mainland do. Reason why I ask is that it was such a pain in the *** to clay my extra cab Silverado. Wash with Dawn, clay, Wash with Dawn again, then Zaino, zaino, zaino, za... well u know how it goes.
I use the z-6 in between coats of z-2.
