Default what degreaser do you use on your engine bay???

Ok well this past weekend i cleaned up my engine bay, and i went and bought some degreaser from advance. I put it in a spray bottle and sprayed it all over the engine bay, but it was hot and i think it dried before i put the water on it so i sprayed it down again with the degreaser and then sprayed it off with water. Now it has like a dull look on the heads and valve covers. I was wondering what kind do you guys use that is strong enough to actually eat grease and whatever else might be on there?

thanks
B.J.

You didn't spray that stuff on a hot engine did you? That will definitely discolor aluminum....always clean the engine when it's cold. I use purple power degreaser and CD2 engine detailer....work really well!

I always let my car sit all day or overnight before I tackle the engine. I have a Mustang that I show and have used Purple Power, but have discontinued use since I was worried it would discolor my intake manifold. Simple Green works pretty good, but I just bust knuckles and elbows with plain old water, a toothbrush, hard plastic scrubbie brush and wet rags. It takes longer, but I don't have to worry about getting water where it doesn't need to be - did that once. Had to let the mass air flow plug air out overnight to get the car to crank.

Gunk engine degreaser here. I like using the original kind or the foam kind. I'm not a fan of the gel. Most degreasers will work best when the engine is warm.

Gunk Citrus Engine Degreaser / Detailer. Works well. I was afraid it would attract dust like no other, but I was pleasantly surprised that it doesn't.

My bay never gets too dirty --- so I put some Dawn liquid in a spry bottle with a small amont of water and spray it on the greasy parts . works nice.

Plus if you stay up with it and keep it clean, then it makes it a lot easier next time around you want to do a full detail
