Changing HID Color Temp - Opinions???

Changing HID Color Temp - Opinions???
I've had my Eurolamps housings with 8000K HIDs for over 1 1/2 years now and I finally bit the bullet and ordered upgraded housings to the Bosche replacements from rallylights ($150). I had ordered some Hella replacement housings for my 93 from him and the cutoff was EXTREMELY precise and ever since he got the Bosche ones I've been itching to get a set because the eurolamps are crap. So I did it, but I knew I'd have to get new capsules since they take H4s instead of H7s. So I'm torn now... I know I don't want 8000K again and thinking about 4300K, 5000K or 6000K. I'm leaning towards 5000K because they'll have an ever so slight bluish hue to them, will look more stock-like (as stock as an F-body can get with HIDs), and since all the imports are converting theirs to 6000K & 8000K HIDs I have a feeling it's just a matter of time before the cops starting cracking down on retro-fitted HIDs in their imports.
Anyone have any input on which I should go with? THANKS!!!

Glad to hear you got some nicer housings. I've been running their Hella free-form 165mm housings for over a couple years now and they look and work great. I really like my 6500K kit from Kaixen. It has a slight purplish color but looks classy because it most closely resembles the lights of the audi's. If you did not go with that, I think the 6000K would look great as well. As you mentioned, if you wanted less blue, the 5000K would be where you want to be. Tough choice to make but I'm sure it will come out great if you stay right in that range.

Those Hella's you have are awesome, uh? I loved him too. With all the imports around converting now, it's just a matter of time before the cops come down on HIDs... and if I do get pulled over, everyone knows that hawks come with HIDs from the factory, right? haha, but I'll sure as crap tell the cop that. Just being paranoid, I guess and gave me a reason to go ahead and do the upgrade.
Yep, been really wanting new housings just hard to justify $150 when I had some that "techincally" worked. The guy at rallylights said they have just as sharp of a cutoff as the Hella's so with that being said I know I'll be happy with them.
Has anyone seen 5000K vs 6000K in person? I've done some research and found some 4300 vs 6000 and the 4300 almost seems kind of yellowish. I also read that 4300 in reflector housings is more blinding to oncoming drivers than 6000, anyone know if there's any truth to that?

Im a big fan of the 6000K. My friends TSX has this and it puts off great light. From inside the car it looks just straight white light yet I cant remember exactly what it looks like from outside. Im normally in the car when they are on.

Wow I hate to sound helpless.. but I quickly got overwhelemed when I visited there.
What all do we need for a full kit for his lows and fogs from there? I guess e use the 150mm rectangular housing?
Sheesh I feel like a nub

4300-5000k have a higher lumen output and therefore are brighter than the higher temperature capsules. The K number is only the color temperature. As the color temperature goes up, the light gets bluer, then purpler and the lumen output decreases (the light gets dimmer).

I 3rd this.
I have TSX projectors retrofitted in my SS and I use 4300K. I couldn't be happier.

Definitely no projectors for my car. I know they're better than reflector housings, but I honestly can't stand the look of them (please don't take offense) and I'd much rather look "stock" as far as the housings go anyways. Say I do get pulled over for the headlights, it's much easier to tell the cop that the hawk came that way with stock-looking headlights over when he looks at some round projectors in a square opening, ya know? ...and hell yeah I'll use the "limited production" of hawk as an excuse that it was done from the factory, lol!!
My eyes tell me I want 6000K because I really love the look of them, but my mind is telling me I'd be safer with 5000K. lol. I wish I could see some pictures side-by-side of both at the same time. I posted something on an HID forum in hopes that maybe I can be swayed one way because I really need to order them soon so they'll be here at the same time at the housings.
Thanks for the replies!

I'm wondering if it's possible to go with 90mm Hella projectors and cut a hole in the glass (not sure how easy this would be) for the projector to mount too?? Or get some plain replacement headlights and cut a hole in them to mount the projector? It'd looks semi-stock and I'd have projectors? Suggestions?

I've got hella 90mm d2s projectors, working on a setup too. But I mean your lights are only on when it's dark, you aren't gonna have your headlights popped up at a car show or the dragstrip are you? Who cares what it looks like under there, as long as I can see the road better at night, I'm happy.

Anyone had both HIDs in housings and projectors and can tell me the difference and if it's worth it??

I think the deal has been sealed, I'm returned the E-code housings for some 90mm Hella projectors to retro-fit. If I'm going to drop money on new housings, I might as well do it right from the start! So with that being said, I just gotta wait on the housings to come in so I can send those things back for a "real" setup!!
