Default Cleaning Back of Wheels?

What is the best way to clean off the buildup on the back of aluminum wheels? They are the Speedline wheels and I have tried scrubbing with wheel cleaner and bug and tar cleaner. All the rough stuff on there will not come off like it is stuck on there. What is the best method or product to really clean this up?

I have some P 21 wheel cleaner and that is not getting it off. Is it safe to use something abrasive like sos pad on the backs. I believe they are clear coated over the aluminum on the backs too.

just make sure, if its shiny aluminum to keep the simple green to a minimum of concentrate, cause it will stain and corrode it. and make sure the brush is soft. unless its a painted type of rim.

Don't use SOS pads..try the simple green and a brush like others have said and see if that does the trick

any APC should work. SImple Green, Greased Lightning, I personally use Purple Power for my APC needs.

Good Luck

I cleaned the inside of mine last week. It was the first time in 3 years that I've done the inside. They were Nasty.

I used GOJO Hand Cleaner and I worked pretty good.

I think I will try some of the hand cleaner and a brush. Good idea!

I use a plasitic toilet brush with Simple Green and lots of water on my chrome ZR1's. I do it when I wash the car then during the winter the wheels come off for a good scrubbing. Must remember the hand cleaner idea though.

For my chrome wheels, I just use Meguiars wheel cleaners. I think the key is doing it on a schedule. If you get them really clean once, just wash the inside every month or so during peak driving season. It is a lot less work to keep up good maintenance on them and it really makes your wheels pop when you are at shows, cruises, etc.
