Default Polished Kooks...

Well even though the Kooks headers already come with a pretty decent finish, I couldn't help myself from polishing them up a bit. I snapped the pics after I was done with the first one for a comparison.

This was just done by hand, no polishing wheel or anything like that. I just wet sanded with 1000 grit, then 1500 grit, followed by a quick buff with Mothers Billet polish. The first side took me about an hour & a half, but I think the second side will go much quicker.

It's by no means a professional job, but honestly the pics don't do it justice either. Just thought I'd share.

Hope those aren't stainless, or in about a week they will be dull. I did the same thing, after a few heat cycles they looked like they did before I started.

Dull? I know they are going to change color, but I've seen polished stainless headers before on a daily driver that still shined. My car doesn't see rain, so I'm not too worried about it.

Well, I didn't have anything better to do this evening so I figured why not. I've got two weeks to do the other one before I get them put on anyway.

I kinda doubt it. I think the surface would be too rough to make much difference. What actually brought out the shine was wet sanding the steel finish smooth. It looked almost that good even before I used the polish on it, but the polish just removed the cloudiness in the finish after sanding.

Okay, but don't say I didn't warn you LOL.

I have stainless Kooks, for about 3 years now. I polished the **** out of them. They look nothing like they did when I was finished. My car sees no rain either.

Good luck!

Thanks for the reply, it must be different cause it's steel. I wetsanded my taillight filler panel, I know it's COMPLETELY DIFFERENT but I wetsanded it and then used polishing compound but maybe I should have tried using a higher grit before polishing after I wetsanded.

Anyways, they look great man!
