Bolt-on Autos: Chime in please
I think I am short shifting the hell out my car. My shift points are set at 1-2 at 5550rpm and 2-3 at 5500rpm. My car has never been on a dyno, so I dont know where it peaks at. It crosses through the traps at 6100-6200rpm.What should a typical bolt on car shift points be set at? What do you have your shift points set at?
Thanks,
Matt

Not only that its about the average power during the entire gear. My car without headers or stall shifts at 6000 and runs pretty good. Data logging shows that my car shifting at 6000 puts me at 3800 in the next gear, and my car doesn't make much power down there. I'm gonna try 6200 next time at the track and see what difference it makes.

i have mine set at 6600 with my set up, but for some reason its still shifting at 6k. i recomend with a stock cam dont take your car over 6k. when i had just bolt ons my shift points were at 6500. well after only a couple months i bent a push rod because of that. stock push rods are the weakest link in your valve train. if you dont like where your rpm's fall down to after a shift, get a stall.
