4l60e Shift linkage?
To make a long story short, just rebuilt my 4l60e put it back in the car and now it only moves forward almost like the linkage is off. I broke the little internal shift rod putting it back on so I went to the local trans shop to get a new one and it was longer than the stock, could this be the problem?
I didn't know they switched lenghts depending on years. Reverse acts like OD, Drive like 2nd and so on, but park still works fine...
On a 95 4l60e

That sounds like something else is wrong...mine was the wrong part after/during a rebuild, the one they gave me was too long.
I ended up cutting it down and putting the same bend in it as the old one to "close out this thread" and it worked fine.
You may want to pull the cover off under the shifter and see if the cable is good, it has little ears or sides on it and if it gets broken the car won't go into the right gear.

Hope thats all it is for you, other thing would be something lock up in there like forward clutches. May want to jack up the car and see if what gear you select is actually what is moving on the side of the trans.

trans and shifer are moving in the same pattern so i guess that means that i'll be dropping the trans out and probably getting annother...no bueno. it's my DD and i just blew all my money on a laptop for school.
