Default Necessary To Trailer With T400 RMVB?

I'm in the process of converting from a M6 to a T400 with a reverse manual valve body. When I picked up the tranny today the guy that built it asked what I was going to tow it to the track with. I said WHAT? He says because of high line pressures it should be trailered. I couldn't believe it, the track is over 100 miles each way. Am I screwed, is it really a bad idea not to trailer with this tranny?

45-4800 stall, with a 3.50 gear. The point is can I damage the tranny driving that far? I wish the builder had mentioned this sooner, if he had I wouldn't have gone with a transbrake.

200 mile round trip with a piping hot 4800 stall converter in a TH400 mixed with some risky T-brake track runs. Hope you have AAA. PS The transbrake isnt going to be your problem. Just buy a truck and trailer, unless you can get a hitch for that 2009 Vette.

It shouldn't be a problem as long as you have a big enough cooler. I know several guys that drive around Tbraked 400s. Only downfall to the RVMB Tbrake, is full line pressure all the time, which could prematurely wear out the pump (I'd guess 20K miles or so).

With the line pressure your going to have now it's going to be a lot of hard shifts to and from the track. Thats a lot of wear on the trans. Plus your probably not going to be going over 50-55 mph on the highway. Just my opinion though, what do I know?

I have a RMVB T-braked TH400 in my GTO with 3.46 gears and 26" tall tires and a 4000stall. Drives just fine for my daily driver. I regularly cruise at 3500-4000rpm on the freeway(70-85) and it does just fine. My shifts aren't obnoxious either. Greg at FTI built the trans and converter. Drives real nice on the street and gets with it when wide open. He said he could build me up to a 5200 stall that is daily driver friendly.

TurboAv thanks for your comments, friend of mine who is a tech at a local Chevy dealer is getting ready to do a T400 in his truck, procharged 408, from the same guy that built mine. He claims with the shift kit that he currertly has in his 4L60E has a idle line pressure of 180psi and a wide open line pressure of ~250 psi, with no problems.

He tells me the T400 pump might only go for 10-15,000 miles but that is what racing is about! I've decided I'm gonna install it, as is, T brake and RMVB, what happens, happens.

I drive mine just fine on the street. Granted I don't drive over 60 - 65mph on the interstate but when I have my car out I'm not trying to go like crazy on the highway anyway. My converter stalls 3000 on the transbrake. But that could be true it being hard on the pump. I probably haven't even put 500 miles on the car this year so it will be a long time til I hit 10,000 miles.

I drove my 355 th400 t-brake reverse manual (4600 stall) on the street for over 5 years with no problems. Just get a tranny temp gauge and a big cooler and you will be fine. 100 miles each way is a ways for that type of combo on the freeway though. You will get tires of going 50mph and taching it out in the right lane real quick.

this makes me wonder wether of not i want to run the th400 on my weekend warrior and occasional track TransAM....

REALLY, you can only expect 10-20,000 miles out of a RMVB th400 w/brake?????????

I just dont wanna waste my money on a 4l60e if i end up making more than 530hp.... i have heard to many stories of even built 4l60e's braking.....

I would like to go 4l80e/brake but man i dont have that knd of money...

So that leaves me with a th400..... the car sees 4-8000 miles a year of me beating the **** out of it 95% of the time....

Are you guys sure you arent exagerating a little? lol
