smoked the th350
how many of you guys really drive you ls1 powered th350s on the street with converters over 3500 stall? mine was 3800 and was great at the track but with that much stall if just drove to town and back ,20min it was hot! still shifts good but the pan is full of clutch material. my car has a 3:50 gear becase i was planning on a turbo or throwing a 150 shot at it. and yes i had a good cooler on it.

I drive mine all the time, have a 3700 and a manual valvebody. With a derail cooler the hottest I have ever seen it get was 137*. How hot was yours really getting? What brand of internals and stall are you running?

its a 3800, its was a trans out of a stock eliminator car so it had good parts in it. it ran like 170-180 if i drove it. on the track it stayed cool. im starting wander if something was wrong with the converter from the get go. probably only lasted 300 miles.
if your crusing at 40 mph running 2500-2800 wont it just slip constantly and build heat?

once a converter flashes and reaches a constant operating rpm there is not suppose to be any more stall effect to it. It should drive just like normal until it drops to idle again

thats because it was. converters slip at any time below the lock up point. thats why with 4.10s wyatt is having no problems and your 3.50 gears caused an issue. if you were cruising at a steady speed how much rpm did you gain while trying to accelerate before you actually accelerated? theres something to your suspicions of the converter though. even looking at a temperature/failure chart your trans still should have lasted a while unless it has previously had the hell beat out of it.

well it does still move, 60 ft is starting to slow down though. but the pan has a lot of clutch material in it. i put a bigger pan on it changed the fluid and filter and the converter was making a noise when it didnt have a load on it. still drives ok though.

what kinda noise and when? i had a truck that the converter came apart internally and it drove fine, but the front pump started making a noise similar to a ps pump low on fluid. it dropped od on the way to work one morning, and then that night after talking to a trans guy (and him saying it would be ok to drive if i turn od off so it would try to engage) it dropped all but 1st on the freeway about 2 miles from work.
