Default 6L80E bellhousing

Anyone know where I could scrounge up a bellhousing to put on a 6L80E out of a Vette? I would like to put it behind an LS3 in my 65 Malibu? If you know of any other problems with this let me know.

Thanks in advance,
Jay

Jay,

Somewhere, I believe there are pictures of different 6L80E's used in different GM models. You might want to rethink trying to convert 6L80 out of vette to work in your Malibu. Not only will you need a Bellhousing, you will need a tail shaft too.

Even one out of G8 has to have different tail shaft installed.

Do a search in Hybrid/Conversion forum and see what you find.

I use one out of truck, then used G8 filter and pan to get more ground clearance as pan is shorter.

the vette trans is in the back bolted straight up to the rear end with a torque tube (driveshaft) between the engine and trans. i think the truck 6l80 bolts up to the engine so maybe you should look into those.

good luck

Yeah I hear that. Seems all I can find are the Vette or the AWD units. Any 2WD unit I come across they want 2 to 3k for them.

You wouldn't happen to have a part # for the G8 pan and filter would you, Poorhouse?

Why not use the 6l90E? It's stronger, about the same size, and the 2wd versions are easy to find. I paid $850 for mine with 4 miles from carpart.com.

Thanks for the link Poorhouse. That's a great thread. I read it a while ago but forgot about it.

I hadn't really ruled them out. It's just that I haven't seen as many 6L90's as I have 80's. But I just need to look harder I guess.

Thanks guys,
J

Heres the P/N for the truck Bellhousing P/N 24236120. The Vette 6l80 also has a different outputshaft IIR as well. Vs the 2wd truck one's

I think the 6L80s that are 4wd should be the same as a 2wd. The 4L60s were like that and you just had to get a tailshaft for it where the transfer case bolted up. They were interchangable I dont know why GM would change that for the 6L80s
