rebuilt 4L60e wont shift
Hey guys, I recently picked up my first f-body, the kid I bought it from was selling it because he couldnt afford to have the transmission replaced. I went and bought a replacement 4l60e and installed a Trans Go shift kit before installing it in the car.
Today was the first time I cranked the car up, and while the engine is fine the transmission doesnt shift at all. No reverse or forward gears. it wouldnt even shift when I entered the command with a scan tool. I didnt have a chance to check the line pressure today. The only visible code was for the coolant temp sensor. Any ideas?
Thanks

Was this a used trans or rebuilt? Did you get the detent rod in the manual valve? Look at that first.Other than that it could be the converter is not in the pump correctly or just a bad pump or converter.

It's a rebuilt trans. the placement of the detent rod was the first thing I checked when the trans wouldnt shift. I wont be back in the shop until Monday, but I'm fairly certain after doing a few searches that the problem is the converter not in the pump correctly. A friend of mine was giving me a hand and while I ran out for a few parts he put the converter on. I should have double checked the installation but I was in a hurry to get the car running.

You may have mis-stabbed the converter which will break the pump rotor .
The trans should hav reverse and third even with no electrical hooked up , reverse has no solenoids active and it will fail to third in the o/.d position .

Found the problem. I got 0 pressure in any gear, so I pulled the trans back out of the car and the converter wasnt installed correctly and it stripped the pump rotor

back again. replaced the front pump, re-installed the transmission, and........ nothing!! I'm thinking its a problem with the torque converter. I have no idea what year the transmission and torque converter are for (didn't think it mattered). Is there a difference in the torque converter or flexplate between years? Is it possible that because the car is a 98 that i need a flexplate spacer?

thanks vince. Im going to pull the transmission back out tonight. Is there anything in particular I should look for with the input shaft and stator? The bellhousing came from the original transmission. Also, did gm use different torque converters with the 4l60e?

alright, pulled the trans back out. the stator seems to match the splines in the converter. This transmission was originally for a truck (had to swap the gear selection shaft to the shorter one from my old transmission) I also had to use the smaller set of bolt holes on the flexplate. If the torque converter was for a non lsx based engine, could it be that I just need a crank spacer?
