Starts in 3rd or 4th, No 1st at all
I drove my car Saturday last and it seemed normal. Then next I drive it is Monday morning and as soon as I shift into drive it doesn't crawl like usual, then I hit the gas and have no power, like I'm in 3rd or 4th gear. Manual shift into 1st does little, into 2nd feels only slightly better. Tried to get it to warm up and it doesn't downshift into 1st. Checked fluid, level seemed fine, color seemed ok but can't know for sure as it was dark out and I only had a flashlight. I scanned it and got no codes except for A/C pressure sensor (I ripped most of my a/c out). What does this sound like, broken or some sensor or solenoid bad?

It appears it has what my dad called "morning sickness". I just drove it today for the first time since monday night and it worked immediately, it was also warmer. I suspect this will happen mroe often in colder weather. I guess it's dying slowly.

Shift solenoid A or B has more than likely failed. Try shifting into manual 2nd. If its doing that and alot easier to start off then do a click test on the solenoids with a scan tool if you have one. If one of them isn't working Bingo.
Possible wiring issue but more than likely shift solenoid fault.

once it started working, and I shifted into 2nd, I realized that 2nd is that bad, so before when it was acting up and I tried starting in second, it was likely still in 3rd/4th.
Thanks for the tips I'll try that, I only have an autoxray scan tool, don't think I can do that sort of test with that. I'll try to figure it out though.

They said the shaft seal leak was a gusher, yet I never saw any trans fluid on the ground. Thy fixed it and the second day back I smell transmission fluid burning and look where i parked had a puddle of fluid on the ground. Dripped once every 20-30 seconds. I took it back saturday. WTF!

Marc which shaft are we talking about here? If they were trying to fix a leak at the linkage shaft it is possible that the shaft is worn at the area where the case seal is. This might require replacing the actual linkage shaft due to a groove being worn into it from the seal. It is possible that the seal was damaged when they installed it. Its easy to do. Vince

thanks for the reply vince, it put me at ease. I dont know trannys much, I am just repeating what I was told. I wasn't sure what was going on or how much work it would be. sounds like whatever it was they should be able to fix it, it's just frustrating, they had it for almost 2 weeks the first time but multiple things were done.
