I just run the plain old III in non-syn for about $23 for 5 quarts. Castrol I think it is.

I have the same question. I currently have dex III and will be getting the fluid flushed including the convertor.

GM worked on this fluid for 6 years before releasing it.

DEXRON-VI significantly improved fluid viscosity, shift performance and fluid durability during aggressive driving. GM tests have demonstrated that DEXRON-VI delivers more than twice the durability and stability in friction tests compared to existing fluids. DEXRON-VI has also shown superior performance in pitting, foaming, oxidation and shear stability tests.

My sheet with my Yank said Ford fluid was also good.. I had ford fluid in a 2004r once and i think it made it shift a little harder. Some where I heard that ford fluid would do that, don't know why.....Big difference in price between III and VI!

This is great info. It's good to know that you can top off your DexIII system with Dex VI.

Also, there is a very big difference in price between the two, even at the parts stores vs. the dealer.
