Default First day at the track...need your expert ears!

My son and I took his car to the track for the first time today. Here are his mods:

Full Bolts On
241 Ported and Polished Heads
Rebuilt 4L60E with a Shift Kit (3000ish Stall, it was in the car when we got it)
VRX5 Cam
Full Suspension (SFC, Torque Arm, Sway bar, STB, Bilsteins)
3.73s

Car dynos at 406 hp and runs great on the street so he was hoping for a good mid 12 second pass. The car launched decently, but fell flat very shortly thereafter. It almost sounds as if its shifting into 2nd and 3rd almost right after one another. If you could have a look at the video and see if you here anything that could help him out it would be great!

http://youtu.be/wvLX6BalM7c

BTW...the car went 16.5 and then 15.5 with .50 lights each time and a 1.5 60'. It never broke 77mph.

Thanks!

Have you scanned for any codes? It sounds as though the throttle is not opening all the way.

With a 1.5 60' the car should have been a mid to high 11.

Need to get a scanner on it and see what gear it is commanding etc.

ya high 11s i would hope but it does not sound like it opened up all the way at all. I agree with madmike check the shift points cause once it got further out it seemed like it kicked down then ran flat again.

When was the last time you got the car dynoed or data logged.. Kinda sounds like my car did when I broke a spring that was hooked on the inner spring (no knocking at all from my engine).. My ET and MPH were down as well, 1.1 sec and 11 mph slower. I took my car to get a dyno and it dynoed almost 200 hp less than what it would normally put out. Hope you find out what's the problem and hope its not an expensive fix.. Your car should definitely be a low to mid 11 sec car..

Thanks for all of the replies everyone. A little more information for all of you. We just had it dynoed two weeks ago and we did just have it in because it wasn't down shifting at WOT like it was supposed to. Turned out to be the throttle cable. Thats fixed now and it down shifts fine into OD just as it should and did so on the way home from the track.

My son was in 3rd on this run and thats why you hear the motor pick back up toward the end of the run. I'm wondering if it either missed second altogether or just went from 2nd to 3rd too fast to keep up and bogged.

It did throw as SES light last week and we are scanning it today to see whats up. It might be something causing it to go into limp mode, but who knows!

Ill keep everyone updated!

Thanks for the ET estimates. He was hoping for somewhere in that range and he's still on street tires without a burnout so it will be exciting when it all comes together.

No way that thing cut a 1.5 60' looking like that, especially not in that video. It sounds like it's revving super low but hard to tell from just that video. Log a run or take it back to where you got it dynoed.

So you took it to the track with a SES light on and wonder why it ran v6 times with 400rwhp?

I agree Quick Shot..I think a 2.5 or 3.5 60' myself..Maybe you hit the wrong key on the keyboard? My 1.56 60' threw me back in the seat.

It sounded like it left in first, then went 2nd, 3rd, 4th within the first couple of hundred feet. He ran fourth through the traps. The trans and/or settings for the trans are all fucked up IMO.

I'm having the same shift problem on my 98 A4. I launch out hard, then shift to 2nd and third one after another way too soon at WOT, but this only has happened at the track and not on the highway/street. I resorted to not stalling at the track and its shifted fine. I read almost every tranny and tuner forum I could and the advice I was given was to change the TPS and VSS and I did. I want to know how changing the cable would solve this issue as so many blame it on a tune/sensor?

and I agree also, IF that car is running 1.5 @ 60 ft with Street tires, it is going to be bad with a good set of drag radials. with street tires I need to do a slow roll for the first 60 ft
