Default PTC converters

Anyone have any real experience with ptc converters? Just wondering how they compare with yank, vig, circle d etc. I'm getting ready to buy a stall soon but don't quite have enough saved for a yank yet... Should I keep saving or do you think a ptc would work good? I don't believe in cheap converters such as b&m, as I have trashed one in my old AOD foxbody with less than 300 rwhp. Thoughts?

Plan to go around 3800 stall since I can't make up my mind between a 3600 and 4000.
Thanks

ive ran a 3200, 3500, and a 4000. no problems with either one. very good and helpful when needed. i cant compare them to any other company you mentioned as ive never used them but there are a few other guys on here that run them. if you look over on yellowbullet.com there are a bunch of hardcore racers over there running converters from them.

My buddy picked up a 3600 to go behind a very mild 5.3 build up. Its not running yet but I plan to update once its on the road. PTC has a good rep, and a good price. But remember, their $450 converter isn't billet, and that's the reason for the price difference between them and a $700 Circle D or Yank.

Ok thanks guys. I have a bunch of family that is into turbo buicks and PTC is popular in the GN/ T-type crowd... but I havent heard much about people using them in LS1's thats why I asked.

Is a billet converter worth the extra $300?

I like the billet front converters because of the bigger lock-up clutch surface. Is it needed? Maybe. Is it worth it? To me it is.

From my experience they hit a tad harder than yank and equal the efficiency. Vig kind of varies on their converter so its hard to compare but ptc definitely hits harder and is more efficient.
I have no experience with circle d and have done zero research on them. From what I have seen their converters are a bit tight.
I don't know much of anything about fti other than they are a competitor and make a top notch converter.
The only converter I would in over my PTC is a NChance.

Steve, when is your buddies build projected to be completed? I'm excited about your review of ptc.

I'm trying to decide if I want to just buy one and put it in my stock 90k mile 4l60 or wait until I have a built trans.

From what little info I have been able to find on them has been good plus lemons can't stop talkin about them lol

You forget about Coan, arguably the best converter company on the market. Edge is a good budget converter though they seem to be more popular with the LT1 crowd.

I ran a 4600 PTC stall in my LT1 car and went 11.90s

I had it re stalled for my LS build and Tim set me u with a 4000... Really nice guy and really fair prices...

For what its worth he told me that my stall would handle 900+ hp... it is a 10" ss series i believe...

Matt

Just make sure to do a pwm eliminator valve before putting one. I didn't and it chattered real bad on the stock 4l60. Now that I built my transmission and did the necessary mods my rebuilt PTC is great.

Coan did slip my mind. As sad at is It they probably get even less recognition than ptc around here.

I put an Edge stall in my foxbody after I blew up the B&M. Edge is real popular in the mustang crowd too. I was satisfied with it. I see alot of Coan converters in full out race cars so they must be good lol.
