Default PRE ls 4l80e mated to a ls motor help?

I have looked throught ls1tech for an answer and cannot find any solid suggestions or proof so i thought i would just ask. A friend of mine is giving me a 4l80e out of a 96 3500 truck, he says is in perfect condition he removed the motor and sold it to some guy and he wants to scrap the truck so like i said FREE trans. I knoow that the computer will run it i just have to have it refleshed no big deal my tuner can take care of that, I know the bell housing will bolt up minus 2 bolts, my question is torgue convertor pilot spacing. Can i just use the gm adapter spacer or what. I am gonna use the factory ls1 curved flexplate and yes i know it only as 3 bolt holes or i can just buy one for a 6.o ls truck and run it and the spacer any help is much appreciated.

A pre LS 80e should bolt up to an LS engine just fine. Use the recommended spacers for the converter if you're not purchasing a purpose built unit and you'll be fine.

If you have any issues with the install don't hesitate to give me a call. I'll discuss it with you in detail if you like.

Actually its only 1 bolt that doesn't line up. If you use a dished flexplate, get the hughes pilot adapter for 4L80E. If you have a flat flexplate, use the GM spacer. This assumes you are running a converter meant for the factory 4L80E setup. Converter companies can built you a flexplate that uses the standard 4L60E style flexplate if you wish.

thanks i ordered the gm spacer and i have a factory ls1 convertor of course it is dished. I am prob going to buy a 6.0 flat flexplate so i can run all 6 convertor bolts instead of 3. AS far as i understand with the flexplate and the gm spacer it all mates up

The 6.0L flat flexplate? Did you order the longer bolts too? GM has a kit with all 3 parts.

GM - 12621399

This is the flat flexplate with the 6 lug 4L80 bolt pattern, crank spacer and longer bolts. It is designed to use an OE style 80e converter on an LS motor.
