Default how to get the shift handle off of auto?????

Hey guys, i am needing to remove my "t" handle shifter on my auto so i can remove the console to run some wires. I cannot for the life of me get the damn handle off. There is a notch in the front of the shifter..directly in the front so its facing at the radio.. i tried to stick a falthead in there and pull thinking that maybee that was the release but i guess not. There are no "plugs" that cover any set screws on the handle that i can see..Please help
thanks
Matt

I used a flathead also, but it was one of the eye glass screwdriver type, I just popped it out enough and then I grabbed it with some needle nose pliers and took it out. You are on the right track, just try a smaller type flathead.

Yep, mines fairly easy. It is a U shapped pin, with the forks going into the handle. Just slide somthing in their and grab it with pliers. I might be in there good since you have never removed it before.

I'm having the same problem with my Camaro's handle, I bought a Trans AM T handle to replace it. I've got a very small flat head, a set of pliers but for the life of me, tried for 1 hour and some odd mintues to get it out. Any other suggestions?

Along the same lines of this post...Is there a way to remove and bypass the safety push button on the side shift handle. I have limited use of my hands and the pushing the button before putting it in drive can really be a headache sometimes.

thx
